What was the last film you watched?

Never seen any of these lol

Edit: think I’ve watched half of the first Harry Potter film before.

Jesus wept

Gianna Michaels and Pinky.

Actual film? I’m terrible with films and am nowhere close to being current. I watched The Gentleman a couple of months ago. Colin Farrell is brilliant.

I’ve seen the first LOTR film, probably the first two Harry Potters and maybe the Prisoner of Azkaban, and every Star Wars film aside from the very last one of the most recent trilogy.

Added to the never seen a LOTR, Star Wars or Harry Potter movie. Feel as though it’s to late to jump on the train now.

You’re not missing much. Episode IX is the shits. It’s somehow worse than VIII which I thought couldn’t be possible

Watched Halloween Ends. I hope this franchise has actually ended.

Will you be watching Alien3 its a nice way to wrap the films up and dont bother with alien res its awful.

The first avp films not a bad watch if you want to just switch ur brain off

Fantastic review @JakeyBoy …really pleased you watched both back-to-back and so jealous that you got to watch Aliens for the first time. As I mentioned, Alien is my personal favourite film of all time and completely agree with your analysis on the film. The xenomorph is definitely more threatening in Alien and the film is more suspenseful than its sequel. This is one of the reasons why Jaws is another one of my favourite films. The creature design and effects in Alien are excellent in my view, not just for 1979, but I really think they hold up today. Aliens, along with the other sequels do look dated now. That’s not to say the effects aren’t good, but I’m not sure many people would guess the age of Alien from the effects.

Like @Cristo, I love the change in genre and like the fact they didn’t try to make a carbon copy of the first film. They went in a very different direction, and went for it with the action, which is excellent. It’s non-stop for about 40mins at the end and love every second.

Sigourney Weaver is amazing in the role, and I genuinely think this is one of the all-time great action performances.

Out of interest did you watch the special edition? The reason I ask is the other thing I love about the film is the emotional thread between mother and daughter. Ripley finding out when she returns to earth that her daughter died in her 60s (after last seeing her when she was a child) and finding and adopting Newt. Those additional scenes at the start of the film really hit home at the end when Ripley is going back to try to save Newt.

I would definitely recommend giving Alien3 a chance…just to complete the trilogy if nothing else. Don’t go in with high expectations though as it is a very different film, but they try to recapture some of the threat from the first film.

Don’t let the lack of Arnie put you off @JakeyBoy …it isn’t anywhere near as good as the original, but it is still worth a watch. Danny Glover does a decent job as the lead.

Add these to the list! Very good entertaining films.

The greatest trilogy of all time. You have a malfunction of the brain for not seeing the other two.

Very disappointed in you JB

Had the potential to be, but I’m afraid to say the films were truly awful. Very poor adaptations of the books, bad casting, acting, and dialogue. The only good thing about all three was the score by Howard Shore, which is fantastic.

What lol

I’m being serious lol…I love the books. Hate the films. Really, really bad!

It’s a shame that a lot of films ruined their own chances of becoming the greatest trilogy of all time.

Die Hard. Indiana Jones. Star Wars.

However, there are trilogies that absolutely still shit on LOTR.

The Nolan Batman trilogy. The Spaghetti Western trilogy. Back to the Future.

You obviously haven’t seen the Pitch Perfect films

I watched Mean Girls for the first time today.

You’re too late. October 3rd is when you should have watched it.

Why is that day significant?

Do you discount Die Hard and Indiana Jones on the basis that there were more than 3 films?

Disagree with you on Star Wars - The original films are a trilogy, and so are the prequels and sequels. The original trilogy is very strong, but also agree with you about the Nolan Batman films, and Spaghetti Western trilogy. I’d probably add in the Godfather films as well…on the basis that Part I and Part II are so strong and Part III is still pretty good.
