What was the last film you watched?

Check out the candidate or while at war or tarde para la ira first, or one or almodovars recent efforts (Julieta and pain and glory are both really nice).

Brilliant. Really, really liked it. Such a well crafted film.

Agreed. Excellent film.

Arguably the best non-English speaking film I’ve seen (between that and Headhunters)

Made me sick to my stomach. Few films evoke such a strong reaction from me.

Can’t say ā€œsickā€ was the emotion for me… It really made me angry, how people are able to construct certain things in their heads just because they seem believable without even trying to check on some facts… Ffs.

Even when he was declared innocent in the end a lot of people still didn’t believe him fully, and I’m not even referring to the guy who tried to shoot him. Says a lot about how the society works at times… The ability to create someone’s image from the outside (power of the media also)… and with all the facts later you’re not able to clear the filth off of someone’s image… the previous (constructed) belief, even it it was based on lies, is still too strong and at least creates a certain doubt and and puts a bug in your head. Yeah, I went far.
But also another point of view. He was a deer hunter, killing innocent deer for fun… Was all that some kind of karma for him?

Yeah, you’ve caught me exaggerating a bit for effect there, it’s a way of emphasising how obsessed the culture has become with these two issues, which tbh I’m not sure needs much expanding upon, because you’ll know it just as well as me.

Aaargh! Can’t see what the spoiler bit says :joy:

Mate, just touch/click on it. Experiment. Be brave!

Green Book
In light of other things going on in America timely reminder of certain issues in the 60s.
Quite a subtle twist on certain stereotyping from a classically trained black pianist and white bodyguard with certain ignorance.
As the story develops at a great pace and bond, friendship grows quite lovely actually.
Didn’t realise it was a true story till the end which just made it that bit better.

I didn’t watch it, I heard it was tone deaf and got criticised.

But then the people saying that also wanted Black panther to get an oscar, so I should watch it.

Well I watched it before any of the current news. Remember it got a lot of hype at the time.
Like to give films that are lauded like that a bit of time. Don’t think it was anything truly special, just well made piece of entertainment.

Ray.

I know I’m not the first one to say this since he won the Oscar for this, but Jamie Foxx was unbelievable as Ray Charles.

As were Kerry Washington, Regina King and Sharon Wallace as some of the women in his life. Also nice to see some old Wire faces, Bunk and Colvin.

9/10

Just watched Skyfall on the tv, honestly not a massive fan of bond films but it’s probably one of my favourite films. For those who care about the franchise where does it rank?

It’s a good standalone film. Makes Bond look beatable. I think there are some parallels to the Dark Knight, though, that put me off and make me think it’s a rip off.

Just watched the Eurovision - FIre Saga film and it was bloody good.

So much better than I thought it would. Super cast as well.

Perfect timing as well as Iceland was favourites to win this year with this bangerƆ

Wasn’t it actually really bad timing? It was originally supposed to be released to coincide with this year’s Eurovision, which they hoped would get them a heap of new publicity and extra viewers. But as it happens, they had to release it in the only year there wasn’t a Eurovision! They might have been better off holding it back a year.

I suppose that’s true but I thought it was good timing in the sense that they released a Eurovision film in the year that Iceland would probably have won it for the first time.

Pretty unfortunate

Bad timing, innit.
