RDJ just loves this shit too much hahah.
Not sure how they’ll make it make sense.

The Sympathizer vibes.

I’m still checkin in on the Spider-Man films, cos I’ve always loved Spidey since I was a kid, but I have totally lost interest in the MCU otherwise.

Was never gonna happen but they shoulda just left it alone for a good few years after Endgame.

The new Umbrella Academy has been released. Two episodes in and it’s been great!

Ben is a dick.

The Bear.

Almost through season 2.

“Forks” is one of the most moving and emotive episodes of television I’ve ever seen. Absolutely incredible. Richie is one of those guys you absolutely root for and it just made you jump in delight. Olivia Colman with a stupendous yet such casually understated cameo, the little reveal about Carmy being the chef that Will Poulter cannot compete with and obviously the explanation of the “Every Second Counts” motto. I fucking laughed so hard when Richie is belting out Taylor Swift song but still interrupts himself to swear at some shit random shit driver.

The detail and emotion and storytelling is just done to an unbelievable level. It’s probably right up there with the single best episodes of a TV show I’ve ever seen.

It’s the best episode of the whole series and it made Season 3 that much more disappointing for me. The scene with Will Poulter is great but my favorite part is when Garrett tells Richie that he just loves doing service is my favorite part. It’s just completely earnest, uncynical love for something (in this case working in a kitchen) that I think a lot of us can identify with. We all have something like that in our lives. It was the show saying that it’s okay to give a shit about something and actually, it’s kind of lame if you don’t give a shit about anything in your life.

They really went off the boil with season 3. I was so hyped for season 3 after the 2nd season wondering what mastery they had in store for us but it just made me not bothered about the show anymore.
Carmy just turned into such a sensitive little ass hole, it got really boring really quickly.
It’s a weird one, as I work in the industry and WANT to love it so bad, but season 3 is just pants.

The part from Garret is so spot on, hope I don’t sound like a sad act when I say this but I can’t relate it to anything else in my life other than service, ask any chef and they live for the perfect service, it’s almost tragic in itself but there’s something indescribable about the perfect service, you dance and flow around each other, it must sound utterly ridiculous to most. I know loads of guys that utterly hate where they are or what they do but I’m like him, I love it… Probably too much and to my own detriment.

There’s so many moments during season 2 like that though and it really just adds to the realism of the show. Probably why season 3 was all the more disappointing.

It’s a bit out there but the film The Menu also kind of captures the emotions and toxicity of kitchens. I think if you enjoyed The Bear you’d probably enjoy that too.

Anyone watching Sherwood?

Have to say I watched the bear a few months ago and really loved season 1 and 2. I only got into a few episodes of season 3 before I lost interest and patched it. Which was a shame as the first two were so good

I couldn’t get beyond episode 3 or 4 of the bear tbh. It was just a bit too much or something. Maybe working in a kitchen is that intense all the time but i dont think that made for good tv personally.

Mate, think ive said this to you before, but that scene in season 1 where the main protagonist’s ex boss in the New York restaurant is having a go at him leaves me cold.

No, I get that it applies to service. I loved working in a kitchen too. The yelling and screaming, trying to beat the clock, talking shit about rude guests, the cash tips, the whole thing. It was great.

I took it more as a universal lesson that it’s okay to care about things and it’s okay to love something even if it’s not glamorous. It’s very anti Gen-X “too cool for school” and more of the earnest Leslie Knope (if you know that reference) attitude.

Season 3 was horrendous. They got high on their own supply imo. Too many indulgent montages, no character growth and too many cameos.

That, until the last few years (since covid) was common place, although not quite as extreme I was on the end of it on my younger days and I know guys that have worked at places like Heston’s The Fat Duck, the bullying culture within places like that is horrific. Thankfully it’s slowly starting to change.

Strike: An Uncivil War

Thatcher, what a disgusting and deplorable human.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

Fucked. Up.

Gangs of London has been added to Netflix, so going to give this another shout out because I just love it so much. As it was a Sky Original, I’m not sure how many people watched it originally and deserves a bigger audience. Two seasons so far, with a third on the way. One of my favourite series, created by Gareth Edwards who made The Raid and The Raid 2 - two of the best action films ever made.

This is well worth a look. Trust me, watch the first two episodes and you will be hooked! It’s pretty brutal though, but can’t rate it highly enough!
