What are you watching?

Perhaps the best male actor of my generation all and all.

His best performance imo is in Shutter Island. What would that film be without him? You’re just sat watching someone making every single scene into art, almost.

Haven’t seen any of the films you listed @DavidHillier as they don’t seem very interesting. Have to say I tried the Revenant a few months ago though, thought it was pretty shit, and far from his best acting. The scene where he… I presume, wrestles a cgi bear in front of a green screen was immersion-breakingly bad imo lol, not sure if it’s all on him though.

Yeah Revenant is also a bad “wouldn’t watch it again” film too, lol.

I think his performance in Revolutionary Road is vastly underrated, too.

It was made to be a film all about Kate Winslet’s character unravelling before our very eyes. Leo’s character, and the way he played him, was the perfect foil

haven’t seen either, I don’t watch much film. He was great in the beach as well though @Blink , the film was good in general and it was good because of the turn it takes, not despite it as some say.

Yes. Leo was good in it (obviously). But the actual film isn’t one I’d watch again. It annoys me that he won his best actor Oscar for that. He has done so many more better films.

Name his best.

I’d say combining his acting and the quality of the film, The Departed

He won an oscar for that one? out of the films he’s been in… wow lol

The Departed is one of my favourite films, Leo is the best

Haha Ray’s accent in the film is awful. Only frustrating thing.

Matthew McConaughey robbed him the year before. He should have won it for Wolf of Wall Street!

@DavidHillier yeah he was brilliant in The Departed. I actually think he could have won best actor for multiple films, but Wolf of Wall Street was the one that took the biscuit. Even if I did like Dallas Buyers Club.

Ah ok. Not mad at McConaughey though. Not sure if I’ve seen him in many films but he was absolutely epic in the first season of true detective. Top quality acting from him there, made the whole season for me.

Yeah he still sounds a Cockney lol.

It’s like Sean Connery trying to pull off any accent othrr than Scottish- he’s done for :joy:

AbouCuellar hated True Detective s1 haha. Don’t know why. I thought it was immense

You should check out How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days

googling, it appears to be a rom-com. The one thing I struggle with with popular film is when it’s just a long lull and I not only know what is going to happen but I know how it is going to crawl its way there as well, it’s unbearable. Is this one like that?

Yeah I was kidding. Don’t watch it really. It’s an example of MM’s work (though not his worse). Leo would never do something so lame. Yet that dude won a best actor Oscar before him!

Tbh they should work together more I love his small cameo scene with Leo in Wolf of Wall Street.

Oh yeah, that was brilliant. Scene stealing to be fair. Probably more worthy of a supporting Oscar than Anne Hathaway for her 3 minutes in Les Mis.

MM was an absolutely worthy winner for DBC (as good as LD was in WOWS). And then his performance in True Detective S1…that’s probably the best acting I’ve ever seen in terms of television. Utterly captivating - I found myself enraptured in a way that I have never felt before when watching one person speak on screen.

Agree on Shutter Island - can’t imagine what that film is without Leo. From an acting point of view, it’s my favourite “leading” performance by him.
