So you are suggesting that we play Cunha as a No.10 instead of Odegaard? That makes no sense and I think that’s a poor line up.
Whichever striker we end up signing will alternate with Havertz upfront. We then need a winger and IMO an attacking midfielder - either a left-sided No.8 or a No.10. Cunha simply doesn’t fit our system!
If we’d have signed a proper striker, there would have been n need to panic buy Trossard or waste more than 60m on Havertz and make him our highest paid player.
Neither are anywhere near good enough to start upfront for a club who are serious about winning the title.
To be honest, I’d have preferred Trossard 18 months ago to Gyokeres. Trossard has been a decent signing. Havertz on the other hand has been a mistake from Arteta. 65m on a midfielder, who we have had to play upfront because he’s weakened our midfield. Fail
You’re talking shite. We signed Jesus that summer. He was the striker, got injured. Two years after the fact and having just watched what happened this January you’re now saying we should have signed nobody in jan 2023???
You can’t just discount the actual facts of the situation. Would i like a better striker. Of course i fucking would! But you are just wrong when you say signing Trossard cost us.
That’s not what you said but ok…so new left winger, Cunha, Odegaard, and Saka with Gyokeres upfront as a front five…assume you playing Rice as No.6. Still don’t see that as a good lineup personally.
I would sooner us switch Odegaard to a left-No.8 if playing with a front five and buy and out and out No.10, with a new striker and left winger. The versatility that Wirtz would add to our team is that he could play No.10, left or right wing. I also think it is unlikely we will start with a front five. £65m on Cunha is a waste of our transfer budget.
Rice as a box to box works IMO. He is adding goals and assists to his game and is able to make up ground and defend as well. Alongside Zubimendi these two will form a very effective midfield partnership.
Possibly. If he can adapt to the PL then yes. Sesko is still a good option IMO and there are the obvious links to Isak.
My main point though, is I don’t think many would chose Cunha as their first choice for a left-No.8.
The podcast I listened to with Ornstein before the end of the January transfer window, said we had firm interest in Isak and Sesko, but when it came to Gyokeres, he said there was nothing from Arsenal that suggested they were interested, but he went further and said Arsenal wasn’t high up on Gyokeres agenda either.
The change in position, if the reports are true, are surely down to Berta’s influence.
From who? The Ornstein link is the first firm transfer link we have had to Gyokeres. Seems atm there is a shortlist of 4: Isak, Sesko, Gyokeres and Ekitike.
Yes but Gyokeres is just another name on the list…that’s all Ornstein is saying. Let’s see how this develops from reliable sources such as Ornstein, as opposed to the ITKs.
Likely, it is mentioned in the article that Berta is a fan.
Which I guess shouldn’t be shocking. Atleti are not strangers to shopping from the Portuguese League.
Falcao, Felix, Martinez and Gaitan are some players that they’ve signed from there. There’s probably more.
The positive, hopefully, that we can all take from this, is that we have clear targets and will have a clear plan going into the summer window. Berta is going to want his first window to be a success. Arteta will want the window to be a success. And you would think that the owners will want the summer window to be a success.
