Alright, Karim Benzema it is.
Or if we sign both
Gyokeres gives me Rasmund Højlund vibes.
For me the big difference between him and Lacacette is the pace and directness he offers.
I was a massive Lacazette fan after that season when he won League 1 Player of the year award, almost won the title, 2015 I think… But after that he lost quite a touch of pace and totally changed his style towarss being a small target man, lost that directness. That’s why I had a big shadow of doubt about him when we were signing him, even though there was still some hype left in me because of his earlier performances.
That lack of pace and mobility always remained an issue for him.
I don’t see a MAJOR weakness on Gyokeres at all.
You can question his ability to translate all of that onto a bigger league, but atm even with some flaws I don’t see a major weakness that stops him from being a CF for an elite team.
He’s definitely more technical and skilled than Nunez and a more complete forward, everyone who watched both confirms that, while both are obviously great athletes who rely on that a lot.
A positive sign about Darwin is that he looks just as good an ahlete in the PL as in Portugal, so that should be positive for Gyokeres too, when translating his athleticism into the PL.
He offers a totally different skillset to Laca in terms of being a complete athlete, a big guy who can run at people, carry the ball, run in behind, everything Laca couldn’t do. He’s also very good with his back to the goal, unlike some suggestions. I’ve seen plenty of examples of him turning players on his back, and that is no surprise with the strength, agility, pace and skill he has. He obviously plays more using his pace, just like Haaland (or Lukaku), but he’s far from being unable to play with his back to the goal too.
Also, I don’t think his goals are that much inflated by pens too, as was definitely the case with Laca.
He’s still on about 24-26 non pen goals in league only. I’d say those are top numbers.
He also has the ability to score any kind of goal except not being great with headers (I still assume that might be a lot down to how Sporting play rather than him being garbage in the air).
If I’m trying to be as objective as I can I’d be devastated to see him going to Liverpool, Chelsea or United.
On the other hand I wouldn’t blink if I saw Sesko there. I’m still baffled with the hype around him.
For me Sesko is much closer to that.
Raw, young, expensive talents who both don’t have a decent goalscoring record yet.
Sesko is his brother. I always find it a red flag signing a striker that can’t score in an inferior league
Agreed
Lacazette looked mediocre physically even in Ligue 1 and it got worse in the PL, I remember @Burgundy (shame he stopped posting) having concerns with Lacazette that plenty of us ignored and it turned out he was right to not be sold on what his lack of athleticism would mean in England.
Gyokeres has no such concerns and he’s the type that can thrive in this physical league and I like the fact he’s got experience in England albeit the Championship which is no slouch regarding physicality.
Also ,Gyokeres is not just a goal scorer, he has a very good all round game that should potentially set him in good stead in the PL
Another reminder of his game against us.
He looks ready to lead the line in a PL club.
Not that he dominated anyone but I’d say he gave enough problems to Saliba and Gabriel.
Also, he doesn’t have to dominate the PL as he does with the portuguese league. I will be very happy if he’s “only” a slight upgrade on in form Havertz (I do rate in form Havertz very highly btw).
People talk about going up against them but he didn’t do badly and also hopefuly he won’t be playing them every week except in training
It’s the other defenders that’ll need to worry about him lol
I wasn’t comparing them stylistically just saying that I’m looking at a player with inflated goal numbers and at a similar age to Lacaze when he signed here.
Just have those reservations based on his age, penalty goal numbers and the fact he’s never had a season playing in a top league that we can truly measure his quality with
Laca was good just never gonna be a 30 goal striker and we signed auba after 6 months to be that, so laca got even more flak.
I went the other way to most people, never wanted him and thought 50m was a joke, then I became a huge fan of his game and thought he was unfairly criticised as he was never a huge goal scorer anyway. People judged him on his numbers including pens and expected the same here even when he wasn’t taking them.
His last season / 18 months are indefensible, and he lost a lot of whatever was left with that ankle injury, but before that he was nowhere near as bad as made out.
Gyokeres pen numbers do draw parallels but we can’t always look at pure stats. I think for 60-70m Gyokeres is by far the best on the table and that’s all that counts.
Maybe we shouldn’t sign anyone in case they’re not very good.
Also known as the “Wenger transfer strategy.”
nah ahhhhh only dirtpounders think that kekekekekekek
Same here… so I think 70m is a good price for him.
But if it is just a “slight” upgrade, will you pay 100m or more for him?
anyway, I said it before, I think we should get him, over Sesko and Isak, IF the price is right.
There’s no way we’re paying 100m for anyone tbh
If Isak is 100m, I would take the risk (getting injured)…
Of course he will be more than that.
100m on someone that worth it, I think we should.
Rice proved it.
Isak will be well above 100m. I think he’s valued at like 150m.
I agree with the window of opportunity to an extent but we are already seeing the team evolve under Arteta. Next season is a must though and we need players who can deliver now. For me I think there are better options at LW who can achieve a higher output in terms of goals and assists but we still need a striker who can deliver goals.
