Viktor Gyökeres

Sesko has all of the tools, but he still has a rawness about him. Gyokeres probably isn’t as rounded as a footballer but he’s quicker, more direct and more clinical. Think he’d hit the ground running as well.

Would rather Gyokeres than Sesko and Gyokeres and a winger instead of just Isak.

I personally don’t want a one dimensional striker. I want a rounded striker who can score all types of goals. Sesko has that ability, as does Isak. I’m not sure the same can be said about Gyokeres.

Calling Gyokeres a one dimensional striker tells me you haven’t watched him so much despite what you’ve told me

He is a lot more creative than Sesko and that video you posted tbh was rubbish, Gyokeres can score with both feet, low xg, creates his own shots etc yet you’re taling about headers and set pieces

Very strange you’re talking about being one dimensional

You’d think Sesko was peak Benzema with the way you’re talking, nowhere near in reality

We need either the best striker available or the best prospect…or both.

Sesko fits neither bill for me. Gyokeres could be the former albeit admittedly some risk with the league switch.

There’s no doubt in my mind Gyokeres is a better fit for what we need than sesko. Only player better than viktor would be isak.

I don’t see us looking back in a few years saying damn we missed out on sesko.

‘One dimensional’ is maybe not the best expression. I didn’t really mean that, but the lack of headed goals is a concern for me, so what I was trying to say is that he isn’t as rounded a striker as I would like.

Definitely not saying that. Sesko is a raw talent. I think he could deliver some goals for us next season, but he isn’t the top quality finished striker we all really want. However, I don’t think Gyokeres is that either.

As I’ve said before, if we signed Sesko, I would want the club to get a top quality No.10. For me, that’s Wirtz. Sign those two, and add a Nico Williams or a Semenyo. and cumulatively, we will be cooking in attack next season.

Didn’t even realise this guy had scored 27 penalties in the last two season suddenly his numbers don’t look impressive.

12 of his 30 league goals have been penalties meaning he’s got 18 non penalty goals in 26 games???

Not exactly show stopping numbers for a 26/27 year old coming from a shitty league

Good spot on the penalty numbers @The_Invincibles

This season he’s had more penalties but he’s shown he can score a shitload a la last season, Sporting haven’t quite been as good on the whole

At this stage of the season 18 non penalty out of that many goals isn’t terrible, that’s essentially what Isak has posted up this season in the PL

I mean, 18 goals in 26 league games isn’t awful. Just depends on how well he can transfer this same ability (or better) over to the EPL. I know it’s strange to extrapolate, but it does seem like he could get 25 in 38 games at least.

Best case scenario this summer it seems

18 non penalty goals in a shitty league isn’t really convincing me he’s going to come here and hit 20+ in the league for us.

That’s fine

Last season he was better, personally I’ve seen what I need to

I don’t care for the numbers. Gyokeres has big balls x-factor and he will be a huge success here.

Moved up to CL level quite seamlessly too

I’m confident

He might be playing in a weaker league but if Gyokeres can score more than twenty goals for Sporting Lisbon, he’ll score a lot more playing in team with Saka, Odegaard and possibly Williams or Lookman supplying him.

He also a game changer and makes things happen for himself and others but more importantly, defenders won’t be able to double up on Saka any more because Gyokeres and a top quality LW will take advantage of the space they’ll get.

I like the fact he makes his own shit happen, like he has the ball and a defender between him and the goal.

He will make the effort to go past him on either side and get the shot off, not just turn around and play it back. We don’t have that.

I don’t care about numbers anymore it’s the eye test.

But I’ve not watched gyokeres enough to say if he’s good.

Williams however

Thanks! Tbf I only clocked that recently. Like you, that is a concern for me.

There is a noticeable difference in quality though between the PL and the league in Portugal…don’t think you can say that Gyokeres, because of his goal numbers in Portugal, would score the same in the PL.

No difference between the farmersliga and the Portuguese league imo

Not sure who shared it here but that podcast section from The Athletic was quite interesting.
Gunnerblog implied that there is a bit of battle on the striker option and there’s no set target, Arteta wants Isak, Berta wants Gyokeres whereas Edu and the scouting team have identified Sesko.
The other thing to note was that they highlighted is Kai’s importance in the team and not to discount him with the arrival of a striker in the summer.

That was like a long-form Romano tweet.
