Yeah that’s part of the problem, stupid rules about what it can intervene on while it should just be used as necessary.
Why is a straight red deemed more impactful and worthy of review than a red via two yellows? Absolutely daft.
Goals, pens, reds and offsides should all be referred for a second look if needed. As should any off the ball shit missed. That’s not too much that it slows the game down any more than they already do.
I honestly don’t think VAR would have helped us today. They generally use it to find reasons to justify the referee’s decision, remember Newcastle away last season?
They would have confirmed the decision was the correct one by showing a tiny segment of the move without any context.
When there are better ways to improve the VAR usage and better rules officiating the games but refused to…
Only one word pops up in my mind.
Manipulation.
Or we call match fixing.
Some said here (or other forums)…
Did we see any controversial call that cost City a point in the past few years??
Let’s be honest, that fucker Rodri should have a few reds and some suspension if there is no favoritism.
There’s at least 2-3 players (from one frame) that are in the ref’s line of sight when Veltman kicks Rice. How can he be so sure that the second yellow is the route to go?
What are the rules on this btw? For example, if the ref thinks he is going to implement a second yellow card for Rice, can he consult VAR before he does so? Seems like the most logical way to deal with a ‘tricky’ (and that’s polite) situation such as that.
It really irates me when results hinge on these kind of decisions. I would much rather we get battered or thoroughly outplayed by a team than this. It’s just horrible.
The fact that they can’t figure out that the rule about not consulting VAR for second yellows is creating a nuisance just shows how incompetent PGMOL are.
We have had this issue last year and they didn’t adapt to it.
Think of PGMOL as worker’s union who are tasked with adding machinery that would cut their jobs. Do you really think the workers will like to install that neat packaging machine that can run on it’s own?
Would we task Train drivers with installation of AI-powered guidance software that can make trains driverless?
Isn’t the rule still that VAR only itnerferes if there is a straight red card situation or a goal situation/pen?
also, whenever there is, how do you say it in English, like… “within the scope of the rule” in the rule book to make a certain call, they shouldn’t interfere. and whenever you kick the ball away it is within the scope of the rule (or how you say it) to award a yellow… and because it isn’t a straight red VAR don’t have to do anything.
Not arguing what the rule should be, just asking what it is. Because that was my understanding, but that was years ago.
