Jamie VARdenied a penalty
What it is supposed to do when applied correctlyâreview an âiffyâ call on the field and allow the ref to get it right.
Oh, and it didnât take too long either
Commentator on 5live said every time the ref goes to the screen its always been overturned.
Yeah itâs a redundant activity. Just take the decision.
If not a pen then surely a dive and a yellow?
Anyone want an example of how VAR should not be used just check out the Palace v Villa game from the weekend.
A Palace goal ruled out for offside. The linesman didnât flag it, so the VAR has decided that that is a clear and obvious mistake despite it being impossible to tell. I dunno, perhaps the wind blew a playerâs sleeve across the line.
Secondly, the Palace penalty, given for hand ball. Really harsh decision. His arm wasnât in the air. It was just natural movement to help him jump. But people may argue that handball is handball. And I guess it makes up for their other goal being disallowed.
Either way, neither were obvious mistakes and neither were incidents that people wanted VAR for. Especially when you consider the incidents VAR letâs slide such as violent conduct!
I think they have to adjust the offside rule to allow the benefit to be given to the attacker
Jesusâs goal being ruled out Saturday for such a fine margin was ridiculous.
It has to be amended.
Or they could use their common sense. The offside rule wasnât brought in for these marginal calls. Itâs just not in the spirit of the game. The Palace one was an absolute joke. No matter how many times you watch it, you canât be 100% sure he is offside.
While I agree, Iâm not sure what the solution would be. The rules simply state that you are either offside or onside. There is room for interpretation or anything like that. A millimetre offside is - unfortunately - offside.
What changes would you propose to the offside rule?
It doesnât need much change, just needs to be relaxed a bit. In the Palace example, there is no way to know if he is offside, so the decision should go the way of the attacker. Nobody would complain about that. Any marginal calls where you have to draw 87 lines should be given to the attacker. If theyâre level then theyâre not gaining an advantage - which is the whole point.
I thought the whole point was to give an advantage to the attacker if the call is tight.
Not this pixel watching bollocks where we all get out rulers to see if an attackers armpit hair has strayed offside.
The thing is, with the lines they can argue it is not level because the smallest of margins can be spotted.
I agree with the palace screenshot you posted that there is no real advantage for the attacker, but when would you say there is an advantage? If he is 10 centimeters clear of the defender? Of it is 25 centimeters?
How about when the last defender is near the side line, the attacker gets played in at the edge of the box with no other defenders near him but he is offside by a just a bit. There is no real advantage in that scenario, even if he is offside by a meter for example.
This rule is perhaps the most objective rule in the game, but now that it can be enforced as such (with VAR), we want to add a subjective element to it.
I think if you canât tell whether someone is offside in 10sec, then you call it for the attacker.
We really do just need to let the robots handle this one asap. Nobody appreciates a humans interpretation of this shit.
Lol itâll take about 12 seconds of RoboVAR for us to be not appreciating the robointerpretations either
If I saw this at the time, I would have given you a timeout to think about what you did
When a goal like the one Villa scored tonight is scored and VAR deem it worth a look why is the responsibility of some cunt in a room in an industrial estate to make the call?
There is a man on the field supposedly in charge. Show him the fucking pictures and let him make his own mind up.
The way VAR is used is fucking stupid.
What do we think of this decision?
Same as a lot of decisionsâŚshit ref, shit VAR
Absolutely fine. in MMA.
