Unpopular football opinions

I’d get it if it was at the start of the season when he looked poor but he’s been very good recently.

He played the majority of last season as a #6 and that’s where he shined the most and received all the plaudits.
While the Jorginho and Partey comparisons are fair, and there’s still aspects of their game he doesn’t do as well, we shouldn’t forget that we’re talking about two of the best #6s of their generation.

Our rivals Liverpool and City would beg to have Rice in their team.

Arsenal play more fluid attacking football with Jesus starting games. Yeah he’ll miss chances but the attacking unit seem to function better as a unit. While the team is on this shit form. might as well run it for a while.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Martinelli’s falloff coincided with Jesus getting injured back in 2022.

We played some really fluid stuff with Havertz too in the second half of the last season while I can’t really remember many fluid game with Jesus up front in the last year or so.

This can only maybe count for Jesus in those first months after he arriwed, but I can’t really say he’s been bringing much fluidity to our attack recently.

I wonder how Partey would fare in the #8 role, he’s the only one in our midfield (outside of our 10s) who can actually play a pass that cuts behind the lines.

He’s technically gifted for it, and could provide the much needed steel for that left-side cuz in 5 years, nobody has grabbed and owned that position for themselves here.

Also curious as to whether Jesus and Martinelli would fare better if they switched positions.

Adidas stripes on football shirts are ugly.

Nowadays I sadly agree. Used to be beautiful shirts. Whoever’s been head of design in the last 7-8 years needs to get the boot.

Watched Shrewsbury beat Wrexham 2-1. Muddy pitch, no var, hard tackles, no players rolling around, long balls. I’d rather watch League One over the average PL game.

Nice to see Wrexham get beaten :grinning:

Hope Gareth Ainsworth succeeds at Shrewsbury

Riccardo Calafiori is the left centre-mid Arsenal need

Over Skelly?

Unpopular opinion: I think Calafiori’s technical quality is very overrated at times.

Surely very good for a CB, as a midfielder, average at best.

Yup. I think Skelly has made the left-back/centre midfield role his own. Utilises some of his best attributes like receiving under pressure.

Calafiori can play further forward. Those moments he’s had in the opposition half has convinced me.

Cuckoldrella is the better Chavs player if choosing between him and cold, gormless Palmer.

They should reintroduce the rule about kick outs having to travel outside the box.

Saint and Greavsie was about as much fun as drinking Sunny D when you’re expecting orange juice.

Just sifting through some unused social media comments of mine and found this one.

Oliver Glasner is a better manager than Arteta.

Saying this before our dropped points vs Newcastle.

What is the reasoning behind this?

Nearly impossible to compare them. We’ve seen many managers playing supposedly attractive and risky football but when they step up it doesn’t translate at all higher level.

Potter got the plaudits, Setien got the plaudits, Maresca got the plaudits. Amorim and EtH were headed as top top coaching prospects renowned for their attractive football and modern approach.

You just can’t compare coaching a team like Arsenal and a team like Palace. Worlds apart in every imaginable way.
