Ronaldo still taking all Portugal’s attacking set pieces is stupid and selfish AF. It’s only unpopular because of the existence of his millions of minions.
I don’t think it’s unpopular.
Ronaldo is one of my favourite ever players but even I thought he was a clown last night for the free kicks. I thought he was lining up as a joke for that second one.
Had he not done that from the stupid angle, the other 3 weren’t actually bad attempts, albeit the third of those (his 4th of the night) was the time to let Bruno take one imo.
The pens should always be him, misses are as rare as they come and it was a great save.
Absolutely not
Summer is for a major tournament every second year
In fairness to him, he’s scored FKs from that ridiculous angle before.
When was the last time Bruno even scored a free kick? Not something I consider him a specialist at.
Don’t doubt it was possible but it was ridiculous to do quite early on after he’d already had a bunch of dramatic reactions.
Did start making it the Ronaldo show and then ended with very little to back it up. Gotta just play the team game for the visuals in his position sometimes too, he did against turkey.
If I was another Portuguese player by the 4th freekick I’d not have even stood in the box, there was no point
This is exactly why it’s unpopular!
Besides it’s winter in Australia and NZ and parts of Argentina right now . Countries where the world cup needs to go,
A World Cup would be great in Australia but when would the games kick off for the European viewers?
Just before school starts, same as it did for Japan and Korea. Those were the only days I’d ever get into school early, the good old times
Not sure European winters would make for good Euro tournaments tbh.
Perhaps the best day ever at secondary school was when the leadership team leaned towards pragmatism and played the England v Brazil match on a big projector in the assembly hall so everyone didn’t just bunk off lol
Same thing happened at my primary school, except we huddled around a CRT TV.
That match had so much anticipation. Even if you didn’t watch football at the time.
I feel to make things interesting in football when a free kick is awarded close to goal no interference should be allowed. You dont get to block a free kick or stop it anywhere else on a pitch so why can you close to the goal. Let the team have a strike on goal outside of the box if they wish…don’t like it don’t foul close to goal. Once the free kick is taken if not scored then the team can run in and stop any potential rebound.
It’s why it’s called the World Cup not the European cup, seriously though I think the last World Cup was better only for the fact that most of the players were at their peak fitness wise mid season, whereas summer tournaments players have the excuse of having a long season.
Anyway it’s an unpopular opinion .
P.s they’ll have late kick offs during the next World Cup, say England play somewhere in LA and the kick off is 8pm when it’s cooler, are most Europeans gonna stay up until 4 or 5 in the morning to watch some Southgate ball?
The rules are the same anywhere on the pitch, opposition players can stand 10 yards away.
Perhaps in order to bid to host a world cup, you have to had qualified for the previous finals…Incentive!
It’s a good incentive, agreed, but I would like India to host a World Cup in my lifetime. It’s perhaps the only way they qualify (to begin with) and who knows how it may help the progression of Indian professional football thereafter?
Yeah, true. It was just a wacky idea. It does help the host nation immensely.
Erm, crowd control?
I like Alexi Lalas.
There. I said it.
