Unpopular football opinions

The most recent one was lucky to go in because the keeper double-checked himself. Saka’s penalties are more or less all bottom right, and it’s close enough to the keeper to be saved. He has no variety in his penalties.

Grealish is the most underrated player in the world atm.

In the world?

I’d say the only person that underates him is Pep by not using him enough.

Messi was not an entertaining player to watch. Much preferred Ronaldo.

Must be slow on here.

But what about the body feints? Us football connoisseurs understand the game on a deeper level and so we very much enjoy body feints but some of you football simpletons wouldn’t understand the depth and complexity of a body feint.

And don’t even get me started on Messi’s scanning of the pitch. No other player in history has looked at the pitch while playing and tried to pick up patterns in the way their opponent plays.

Ronaldo is two tiers below Messi

Anyone who prefers Ronaldo over Messi needs to kill himself and make world a better place

It’s just the way internet talks about him nowadays…

As if he’s th prime example of a modern boring winger and that just tells you how clueless everyone is that’s talking like that.

Even withouth direct goals and assist, he always creates so much for other players with him brilliant on the ball ability, drawing the players to him and then picking someone out, whether it’s someone just in front of the box, or someone underlapping/overlapping etc.

A brilliant, elite, dribbler, so efforless on the ball and also has the vision and creativity to always pick out a good pass. Just because he does’t score many direct goals and doesn’t doo 50 yard runs doesn’t mean he doesn’t create a lot for the team.

Even compared to Saka, Grealish is much better on the ball and has better ability to keep the attack going when there’s not much space. Saka is obviousy better off the ball. But when there’s not much space and you have to create something Grealish is better no doubt.

The problem I think people see with Grealish is the price tag to output, he cost them a lot of money, similar to what we paid for Declan Rice?

Its clear to see he’s quality and when he was brought in against us when we played them he caused us all sorts of problems.

Grealish won games for Villa and plenty of them. He’s rarely doing that for an infinitely better team

Overrated if anything.

If Grealish was at Arsenal (and say he was a replacement for, say, Martinelli), he wouldn’t be changing our fortunes much.

I’ve always thought with Grealish that he’s rated just fine- an excellent player who should be playing in the upper echelons, but not world class.

Is it fair to say that because of his insane price tag and relatively slow start at City that he’s become underrated? It’s not a shock that he wasn’t able to live up to the price tag, few players sold at that price ever do (obviously with Rice being an exception).

I think if you gave him back to Villa right now or Spurs (as they’re pretty much equivalent), he’d look a baller.

As for getting into Arsenal’s, Man City’s and Liverpool’s starting XI, it might be a bridge too far, which probably exposes his level.

(I get that that probably contradicts what I said about him playing in the upper echelons lol)

Andrea Barzagli is the best and most underrated defender in the last 15 years.

There wasn’t a better CB when it came to positioning, reading of the game and he was an absolute monster in 1v1s

For whatever reason I’ve completely forgotten that he was part of the Italy team that won the WC in 2006.

Severely underrated. He was a real late bloomer. Definitely got a lot better with age.

Better than Chiellini and obviously better than Bonucci. He was the real lynchpin of that Juve defence.

I know it’s impossible to ever truly evaluate a CB pairing but with time I think it’s become clear that Bonucci really got the benefit of playing next to Chiellini.

This Arsenal team is as good as, if not better than the 2004 league winning team.

That will go down well…

@Leper, if that is the case, do you think City’s treble winners are better than the Invincibles?
