No the main reason was there was a complaint about it being unfair.
Thats how we went to silver time for the opponent to have half a chance of an equaliser for some reason.
Nothing summed all the emotions in a game like the golden goal IMO.

The reason I remain on the fence about the golden goal is that we wouldn’t have had the greatest extra time ever at Sampdoria in 95 had it been in existence.

Extra time is rarely memorable and I’m not sure what you could do to change that. Short of just playing until someone scores and looking at this game that would be horrific.

Here comes the whinge of how some of the fittest athletes on the planet can’t be expected to play 2 hours of football with 5 subs each.
There’s people holding jobs down running around the streets doing 2 hour runs or fitness sessions in the gym. Ffs.

The evidence is there to see. Players are set for a 90 minute game and depending on how hard they go in that they often are out on their feet after the extra 30. The problem is how long they might end up going if it was next goal winner. It’s also game 60ish this season for these teams. They play enough for me.

Rolling subs might help but nothing slows the game down more either. That system would need dramatic change.
