But then again you think Alvarez is worth 100m.
Joao Pedro has more goals(without taking pens like Alvarez) and more assists while playing in a tougher league.
Neither is fantastic, not many forwards are nowadays, but I’d take Pedro over Alvarez right now tbh.
Alvarez has been a key player in a title winning City team and is a key man for the World Champions. Think he’s shown a fair bit more than Pedro. That said, Pedro has not had long at a big team and doesn’t really start for Brazil.
I think he does but it’s marginal. He’s Martinelli without the hunchback and eyes glued to the grass.
I’d prefer Barcola myself but I don’t think we’ve been linked with him once.
Gordon would be an awful signing. I think he’s good but nothing about him screams star or match winner. If we want a hard worker on the wing, they have to be like Kvara as a player who can genuinely win games.
No surprise here, but I am 100% with @Truth_hurts on this one…I am not even sure I would put the two players in the same category. Alvarez is top quality and he proved himself at City. I think he is ripe for a return to the PL with a Title winning Arsenal side.
Also when it comes to transfer fees, we really need to get over the current market price to buy a top player. £100m for Alvarez is no longer a stretch for us, and we can probably afford to make 2-3 top tier signings like this in the summer. The financial results we have just posted are excellent, and we are going to generate even more revenue this season. We just need to follow what Fergie always used to do at Utd, which is when you are on top, go and buy the best player available on the market to strengthen your team. We have the depth now. All about the quality going forward.
We need an out and out striker option. Alvarez is absolutely that player and he would fit seamlessly into our team.
Him and Kvara are absolutely perfect. Hard-working mavericks. I doubt Kvara is available and I get the impression that the Alvarez family do not like England much. Either would transform us in my opinion.
Apparently he does want to leave Atleti, but PSG and Barca are also looking at him.
I think that’s where he lands if he does go.
We know PSG are loaded and Dembele’s injury problems have come back this season.
Barca elections take place in a few days with big promises about bringing a striker.
If both were available, we should go all in for them both - as you say they would both be transformative. In terms of Alvarez, I can understand why the family weren’t keen on Manchester, but a lot of international players love London, and that that remains a strong draw for us. I’ve also just seen in the BBC gossip column that:
“Atletico Madrid are willing to sell Argentina forward Julian Alvarez, 26, to a club in the Premier League provided they pay £85m, but will not allow him to join Barcelona. (Sport - in Spanish)”
So, to pick up the point @GC-Maniac was making, Barcelona, firstly would not be Atletico Madrid’s first choice as a club to sell him too, plus, we can blow Barcelona out of the water in terms of the transfer fee and player package we can offer. Ultimately, if the player wants a return to Spain in the future, that can be facilitated, but if you were a top player, with an option to go to Arsenal, why wouldn’t you want to commit you best playing years to our great club! I do accept @GC-Maniac other point, which is that we could face competition from PSG, but again, the PL is the place to be, and personally I would not rate France higher than Spain, Germany or Italy.
Kvara would be an absolute dream signing, but we shouldn’t think signing these types of players is unrealistic now. We have come a long way and we are at the top table, plus, as we always say, we have a different knock!
If/when we sign Alvarez, where would you like to see him play for us? Ideally, I’d play him off the striker and buy a left winger. Dare to dream:
———————Rice———Zubi——————
—Saka—————Alvarez———-Kvara—————-—
—Gyokeres/Havertz———
Selling Jesus, Martinelli, Trossard (reluctantly) pretty much funds it. I would be moving on Odegaard as well with an eye on using an out put player in the ten I.e. Alvarez, Merino, Eze, Havertz.
