Understood why she gave it but don’t know how VAR didn’t refer it back.
Was a dive by Abrahams and have no clue why it wasn’t checked by VAR. It looked like a penalty from one angle, so can’t blame the ref but was an awful decision to not have it checked.

Yeah I think most people agree it was soft. But does anyone think the reason why it wasn’t overturned was because of the referee’s gender? Joe Cole was chatting about it being a “big night” for women in football and that they perhaps thought it would ruin the occasion if she was undermined. The video assistant referees were reluctant to “embarrass” her apparently.
Not me. If anything she’d probably get more plaudits for overruling it surely. Another VAR fuck up or teething problem depending on what side of the argument your on

I can understand the point Cole is trying to make but I can’t wrap my head around the idea that UEFA / whoever would make a conscious decision to avoid using VAR in case it undermined the referee. The potential to create a disastrous result would be too great. I think it was just a really poor call by whoever that decides whether a decision should be reviewed (is that the referee?).
The referee was terrific yesterday aside from that one incident, and reviewing the penalty would not have been a slight to her ability / performance. It looked like a penalty from her angle.

Don’t get how VAR didn’t do a check on the Pulisic golazo…looked like VVD was keeping him on. They do the magic line check thingy for that Jesus goal for City the other day where Sterling is like a milimetre of his shoulder offside (if that), but don’t even check that goal…not exactly consistent.
If it was up to the referee, and she didn’t have a look for fear of being overruled, that’s a bad look.
In any case, very strange this wasn’t talked about at all. Would’ve made it 2-0 to Chelsea and probably they’d have won.
