Where have I seen that before ![]()
someone else beat me to it? ![]()
wtf I am actually blind LOL
I didn’t really follow football very closely before 2005/2006, but did we use to have so many injuries all the time back in the 90s and 00’s??
Even with this insane depth, it feels like we’re only another injury or two away from trouble.
Boggles my mind we constantly have so many players out.
I think the modern game lends itself to regular injuries. On one hand the game is - for lack of better vocabulary - less rough now but the intensity and physical demands are higher. There are now more games especially when you include the meaningless International Friendlies.
Take a player like Martinelli for example. High energy style, back and forth to Brazil. Despite him not starting every game for us, I’m not surprised he’s worn down and currently out.
I have no idea how Declan Rice is still standing after his last four years of football.
Ironically, 2005/6 was a season with such ridiculous injuries for us that Flamini played left back for us most of the season (and did a very good job of it).
Injuries have always been a part of football it’s a bit of a fallacy people push that the modern game serves up more injuries.
There was a study done a few years ago over a span of nearly 20 years that showed injuries in football have actually decreased over the last 20 years.
The game is faster and plays run more but there have also been significant advances in sports science and medicine.
I think the only type of injury that has increased is ligament injuries which makes sense gives the playing style of a lot of top teams.

94th minute, look at the unity in tracking back and protecting that cleansheet. Brilliant.
“…Ethan doesn’t win that duel”
You know Arteta will remember that ![]()
You can make a bad pass, but not winning your duels doesn’t pass Arteta’s eye.
It’s all about being zweikampfstark. ![]()
Everything about Gyokeres injury definitely sounds more serious than I thought at first. Definitely not precaution, he had to leave the pitch.
Hopefully not too big, but now I’m not too hopeful about seeing him against Sunderland.
Mostly frustrating because he was hitting his best form now… Wouldn’t even miss him that much just a couple of weeks ago ![]()
I’m just hoping the state of us after the international break is
Minimum 6 points clear at the top of the league
12/12 in the CL
Most of injured attacking players back from injury and a relatively clean bill of health to attack December / January.
With City and Liverpool playing each other next weekend, we should be hoping for a draw. Assuming we can get a win against Sunderland, we could be 8 points ahead of City and 9 ahead of Liverpool. I think we would have all taken that at the start of the season!
Love the squad depth, ridiculous that it is being severely tested so early in the season.
Find a way to beat Sunderland and have City/Pool draw.
The injuries are really starting to worry me now, especially the cyclical nature of it. We get some players back in a couple of weeks but we are already piling up the next set of injuries.
Gyokeres will be a big miss I feel. Merino can do a job but it’s not the same as having Viktor. My biggest worry is the midfield, especially Rice. We lose him and it’ll impact us on both ends of the field. Just hope he stays fit and Mikel manages his game time properly.
Fuck sake
It’s just ridiculous the amount of injuries last season and this season.
Got to be doing something wrong.
No no just bad luck…
Not worrying at all.
Everything is fine.
Squad depth and all that.

It does sound like we could be getting a few back after the break. Just hope Gyokeres is fit for Spurs. But it is frustrating. And it’s not like we don’t have depth, it’s just everyone is injured. It always seems to hit one area the pitch, which is so frustrating. And no Zubi tonight, so it’s going to be interesting to see the starting lineup.
