It’s fantastic in the last 18 months we’re back in the mix, but sometime in the very near future we need to win the league.
It’s 2 decades since we’ve been crowned champions and if we fail to to so in the next few years it’ll be likely this group will then be broken up and god knows how long it’ll be before we challenge for the title again.
Fingers crossed our day arrives in the next 2-3 years.
Obviously I agree capitalising on this period is important, and winning something big is vital. I’m just saying it’s probably worth taking the time to enjoy the ride a bit more too because when this team has had its day it’s the week to week fun of watching a team that can perform against anyone is what I’ll really miss.
There’s a false implication there as well as from @GC-Maniac that speaking on any failings or the importance of addressing them to reach the end goal is not enjoying or being proud of the trajectory of Arsenal.
Arteta and Edu have done a remarkable job in bringing this club back to the title conversation. If they won’t settle for just being in that conversation and want to go all the way, surely the fans can be of the same mind? And that often does come with knee jerk disappointments when the team do either collapse or miss a good opportunity.
Ask any Liverpool or City fan and they will tell us if Arsenal want to reach the top we’ll have to be clinical and cut out mistakes. Every fan has a right to lament where we’ve let ourselves down, as well as praise the immense progress so far.
Until we win that title or Champions League there’s still no reason to settle. Lets not forget we were here with Wenger for many years in and amongst it but failing every season. Whilst we are much better than back then we still have to eclipse that position by going all the way.
Then the whole spoiled narrative can start to come out if people are still lambasting the club etc. Atm we still haven’t fulfilled the potential set up by this team and management.
The closer we can sniff success the greater the stakes and that just comes with both excitement and tension really. It’s hard to then simply sit back and enjoy it when you go into a big game nervous and hyped up. Suppose you could say that is part of the enjoyment too.
I think last season due to how it fell apart the fans are even more desperate to get over the line while we’re in this position. I think we’re a title or CL away from losing that desperation element.
See, nobody is stopping you or anyone who wants to criticize the club. Regardless of if it’s warranted or not.
However, I should be able to think that criticism is over the top or unjustified, no?
Yeah I don’t think people should “sit back” and a title race like this is a seriously tense affair with very high stakes. But I still love the fact that I don’t watch games wondering where we’ll get a goal from or thinking if we go 1-0 down in the tenth minute it’s game over. I don’t dread tuning in for a match.
Of course. Spectrum on this is ridiculously vast. I know some fans that have an ‘enjoy the ride’ mindset even if we were sat in Chelsea or United’s predicament and there are others who want Arteta out at all costs even now. All in all I think the fans are all in on this journey wherever they stand and fully engaged. That’s all Arteta could have asked for really when he set out to bring the connection back with the fans.
Our biggest limiting factor to us winning the league is our front three. 2 goals for Martinelli, 3 for Jesus, 3 non pen goals for Saka.
Our first two attacking replacements every game are Trossard and Nketiah. Not ideal since Trossard is pretty poor at LW and we are just undoubtedly worse when Nketiah plays instead of Jesus.
Yeah. Surely our front three are yet to hit form and will start scoring sometime soon. Though it’s comforting to know we can still score goals when the front 3 ain’t doing it. That’s what title winning teams are made of.
