The State of The Arsenal

I don’t think we need a new striker at all. Look at how many goals our front 4 have scored this season. Look at how many Premier League goals we’ve scored this season. This will be our best goal tally in our history.

Having one player score 30-40 EPL goals doesn’t guarantee the title. I’d much rather have 15-20 goals spread across our front 4, and +5 goals from midfield/defence.

We didn’t lose because of Jesus. It’s because of our shitty defence and midfield.

I’m still surprised that Arteta can be an assistant to Pep and still not understand the system Man City players play to. Or is it he just doesn’t understand the weaknesses in the system because there are some or Man City would have won the Champions league.

Sadly, Man City will win the CL, FA cup and the league this season.

What’s left in the CL is dogshit. This is Pep’s chance to win it for city at last.

Unless we win the league, every game we lose this bottling shit will be thrown at the team, it’s just too easy and so very lazy.

Our thin squad (which we new from the start of the season) had some injuries and we ran out of steam. Last season we bottled top 4, this season is different. The boys look tired the last 4 games or so and it’s showed. We are not City/Chelsea, et al where the owners will spunk £500M in a window, so our growth under Arteta was always going to be organic and take time. We fell short this season but gave a good account of ourselves overall. We will go again next season despite the naysayers.

Pep changed up his system last night, it was obvious to see (or maybe not based on your comment). We prepared for a City the way they usually set up and Pep changed things up. In fact City did to us what Bayern attempted to do to City but they executed it far better.

Arteta too is young and will learn from this.

There is plaudits to take from the season and this collapse can’t be ignored either.
The honest assessment really needs too come from the next 5 games to define the season properly.
Not even talking of winning the title but we have 15 points to play for now.
5 wins gets us 90. How close we get to that is important for me.

Thanks someone said it.

We’ll probably score 90 goals in the league and some are saying you can’t win the title with Jesus as your CF :joy:

I’m with you mate, the team need to knuckle down now, set themselves a goal of winning the last 5. Momentum into pre season could be important, we don’t want to end on a 9 game funk only taking 9 from our last 27 or something.

WE won’t though. I bet anything as long as he’s our number 1 forward that we won’t win a title. Want to take up that bet. I’m surprised some of you really don’t think we need a top quality forward.

Not sure I’ll take up that bet because I don’t know if we will or won’t, I do know we’ve scored enough goals this season though.

Looks like we’ll concede about 45 though, I sure as hell know we won’t win a league title unless we cut that down by 10-15 though. Can’t remember the last time someone won this league conceding over a goal a game.

Alright United 12/13 was the last team to win the league conceding more than 36 goals in the season.

And they won the title thanks to have RVP up front and that league season was poor too. Think that UTD side lost quite a few games too.

Imagine a 25 to 30 a season striker up front with Saka and Martinelli out on the wings with Jesus and Tossard backing them up. I’d definitely have more hope for this side winning a PL. For me a top quality striker is a must but again that’s just my opinion. I just don’t think Jesus is that guy, sorry.

Another top quality PL proven CB wouldn’t go amiss, someone who can lead and isn’t all talk like Zinchenko. They badly need a leader back there. Our home record for conceding goals is shocking. Even with Saliba at the back.

We beat them in the FA Cup in 2020. I assume exploiting some of their weaknesses then was key.
A lot has changed since then though.
Pep’s the master of evolution, his teams change from year to year.

If we have another £150m transfer kitty this summer; you’d want to blow more than half that on yet another CF? Despite the fact that in almost every game we’ve struggled to win, has been due to poor transitional play, poor defending… and our goalkeeper literally handing goals over to the opposition?

It’d make far better business sense to strengthen up at the back.

Can you imagine if we had Newcastle’s defense this season? We’d have won the league 3 games ago.

Well, at least we’re a draw.

Just saw some crazy stats to add to that…

The last team to not win the league after winning 8 of their first 9 games was Arsenal in 07/08. And the last team before that was also Arsenal in 04/05.

I think it’s safe to say that being a “bottle job” is unfortunately part of our DNA, and we need to shake it somehow. This definitely runs deeper than just a personnel issue; unless we keep buying players with the same personnel and attitude and therefore getting the same poor end product.

Apart from City and Spurs fans, I don’t see or understand how fans from any other club can revel in our failure; as doing so simply shows that they’re in support of the EPL just becoming a one-team show. What has this league become? :disappointed:

Wonder what the last 20 years would’ve looked like if Chelsea and City didn’t get GTA cheat codes.

We are heading in the right direction.
Just inexperience , naivety and some individual mistakes at the crucial stage has cost us dearly.

Agreed. While not winning the league given where we were a couple weeks is always going to always hurt pretty damn hard, in the end I think ultimately the blow somewhat softens if we lose it to this monstrous Man City team as long as we pick up and push them all the way.

If we get closer to that 90 point mark and still miss out on the league, it’ll mean City pretty much have to win every remaining game too which is almost 14 on the bounce. Not unachievable for them given what they’ve done in recent years but I’d find it a lot harder to feel sour about it.

Not that this excuses our bottlejob in April, it needs to be seriously addressed next season and going forward if we actually ever want to win anything.

If we think the armband is just a “symbol”, too bad, we are not in position to talk about mental strength.

Look at City, there must be a reason why Pep picked Gundogan over KDB as captain.
Best player not necessarily will be the skipper.

Flavour of the week mate, Jesus missed a volley against saints and is now shit.

Completely ignoring how much he transformed our attack this season and how much better Martinelli in particular played with Jesus.

Do I think he’s undroppable? Of course not, but I don’t think we need a new shiny 50m+ forward to bench him. A better backup is what we need, although Trossard did well there too.
