Exactly, if they truly fuck with the money of those that matter then it can do something significant.
Going after the Russian political elite rather than the country itself should be the way to go but you can’t see the Tories doing that when these same people are the ones that have lined their pockets and bought them off.

I don’t agree, that’s what can weaken Putin because these are the ones he depends on to carry out his vision.
And by Russian elite I’m referring to the Duma or Senate etc not just oligarchs.
Boris is apparently trying to cut Russia from SWIFT, Germany being pussies and refusing to support such a “dramatic move”.
Personally I wouldn’t call that a dramatic move when compared to invading the 2nd largest country in Europe.

The majority of these oligarach assets are offshore and spread around plenty of other jurisdictions where the government doesn’t care.
Seizing UK based assets won’t make a difference to their comfort level at all, it’s basically “holding” money concentrated in hard assets. It’s tantamount to a minor inconvenience at best.
It never going to be enough to force a change in Putin’s behavior

I suppose we are going to see a plethora of impotent mp’s calling for the seizing of assets from rich Russians, because that has always affected the outcome of a war and stopped the slaughter of innocents, fucking pricks.
