Could say the same for Ukraine
There are U.S. midterm elections towards the end of this year. Biden is already underwater even in deep blue states such as California and New York (polling). Don’t do anything and it will just add to the wipe out of Dems. There’s going to be a lot of pressure to do something.
Trump’s hard man ego was fragile enough that he would never have let Putin get away with something like this lol
Stephen King is lol. He’s saying Putin won’t get away with this because Biden won’t let him like Trump would.
Because, ya know, he still believes Trump was a Russian agent. Like a demented fuck.
Makes you wonder why Putin is doing this now, rather than when his mate was in the White House.
He took Soleimani out when there was some cat and mouse with Iranian mullahs. That was the sort of thing that would be noted everywhere.
Just when it looked like Covid is closing down shop
I’ve seen some headlines on mental health crisis numbers in the UK, it is the same in the US, but more than that the impact of rising food, energy, etc. prices is felt a lot, and is going to get worse.
I read somewhere that it’s because Putin was counting on a second term for Trump and to do it then when Trump had consolidated his rule. However with Biden coming in, Putin knew he was on borrowed time for a Ukraine invasion and couldn’t afford to wait for a potential second Trump term all the way in 2024, something that isn’t particularly likely either.
Putin is 70, he’s an old man. If he wants to reunify the USSR he has to do it now.
Or Trump wasn’t hawkish, and had no interest in starting wars.
Biden on the other hand…
It looks like Putin is going madder by the minute. He’s a paranoid Meglamaniac who seems happy to push the red button if he doesn’t get his way.
Personally I’d rather live in the Russian empire than see me and my family incinerated in a nuclear holocaust but I know that the latter is a lot more likely.
I’m hoping neither is a realistic possibility and that I’m panicking for nothing
Your perspective on unification of USSR is interesting. The other way to look at it is EU/NATO expansionism into Ukraine, which has been the goal (see Van Rompuy quotes for confirmation of this), was what was a step too far, or at least it was without proper forethought regarding Putin’s responses.
That’s a crazy strategy.
You know that once in a lifetime presidential victory of a game show host? A man who is our puppet? Let’s completely waste the four years of his presidency, and instead gamble that he will somehow win a second term, and then we’ll make our move!
I hate that people are trying to liken Russian imperialism to NATO or the European Union, it’s such a dumb take and completely dishonest to try and claim they are in any way similar.
Would Putin have done this with Trump as POTUS? I don’t think so…currently EU and USA have extremely weak leadership
spot on, the west doesn’t have the appetite for conflict and strongmen take advantage of that fear for territorial gain (where have we seen that before?)
China is watching right now, Russia is making a fool of the west on its own doorstep with overt aggression and invasion.
Just need to wait untill Putin dies to watch Russia fold in on itself with civil war.
That isn’t really the point with this. It is about Ukraine being on Russia’s doorstep, which to Putin would mean military bases and assets permanently stationed on the border. Did there really need to be ambitions to push this, because there were, via the European Council and U.S. State Dept. How did such plans benefit Main Street in the first place?
Have you ever been to Russia?
Why don’t you go the whole hog and intern every single Russian in Europe because that will really show the Russian government won’t it.
You’re displaying the same type of hysteria after the Brexit vote in the UK.
Almost makes one think the MSM talked utter nonsense all that time regarding Trump and Putin.
Wasn’t Trump supposed to be Putin’s errand boy?
Funny how the invasion happens under sleepy Joe and not under rUsSIan asSet TrUmP.
