The randomly nothing thread

Twitter began with the open.policy of no censorship so anyone who created an account there should know what they are subjecting themselves.

Lol I don’t think no censorship meant that people should use it as a platform to racially abuse people.

I’m a bit with Maguire on this one. I’m thinking out loud but it might be something that works. I don’t see why you can’t sign up to Twitter via ID and remain anonymous (if that’s your choice) at the same time unless you convict a hate crime?

Take trading on the stock market for example. You open an account with a broker/bank which requires your ID verification to sign up. When you buy a share via transaction you are effectively anonymous because your transaction is cleared via the exchange and matched with someone else’s. It’s only if someone is breaching law (such as manipulating markets etc) that the exchange will then trace back to your account to locate the identity of the offendor.

Long story short, why can’t Twitter retain your ID against your account for the purpose of having it in the case of racism/hate/whatever behaviour?

On the flip side, you can’t be aggressive in your criticism of politicians or policy makers if there is no safety of anonymousity.
Think of all the Hong Kong protesters who can criticize the Chinese government without the fear of being targetted for your opinion.

There should be some platform which upholds that and some don’t.
If you can’t keep yourself from checking the comments, go on Facebook, Instagram or something.
If you are on Twitter, be aware of what you are getting into.

But this is racism we’re talking about.

I’d like to think as someone who’s revealed his identity to the online world that I can criticise policy makers for their stupidity and not be punished for it. I certainly wouldn’t expect that if I was making racist comments.

I actually do see your angle of your argument though. I know what you are getting at. Circumstances are not quite that simple in a macro environment, which a site with global reach has exposure to.

So did 4 chan, and then when 4 chan started to censor ppl, 8 chan offered that uncensored space. A lot of mass shootings later even they’ve got the carpet pulled out from under them. It’s a great idea in theory the no censorship thing but there are a handful of vile disgusting humans who use those platforms to galvanize support and indoctrinate their twisted ideas into other fragile, mentally unstable individuals. First it was ISIS that were banned from the site now its domestic american terrorists.

It’s a murky area and difficult to navigate without some compromise.

Great thing about Twitter though is that it’s a haywire of opinions and not isolated that forum threads can be so uncensorship rather works with Twitter.

If u actually use Twitter on a regular basis you can easily build an echo chamber. When u follow a lot of ppl who hold the same views as u do they share things and twitter floods ur timeline with stuff that fits the content ur looking for.

Yeah I know.
Every convenient thing in human history has been abused.

We have to suck it up in couple of platforms in my opinion for sale of freedom of speech.
Go to any YouTube video about India and you will have tons and tons of comments about negative aspects of India which would be offensive to Indians.

In an era of digital background checks, I don’t want humans to turn into robot because of fear of losing their job for making a risky joke on YouTube or Twitter.

No we don’t.

Twiiter would lose 100s of thousands of users if it became a policed environment. They like their platform the way it is as do their users. Aint changing for shit.

With the amount of money I’ve spent on contact lenses in my life, I could have just got laser eye surgery.

This thought comes while I nurse a very irritating stye.

I’ve tried contacts a few times but could never get them in my eye :joy:

I actually like wearing glasses tho I see it as part of my ā€œlookā€ so it’s never bothered me that I couldn’t do it. Could never go for laser eye either haha

I would love to go for laser eye surgery, but the thought of them clamping my eyelids open freaks me the fuck out

Yep. I don’t need glasses but I’d wear 1950s NHS freebies over getting laser done. Fuck that.

Fashion being as it is, I’d wager most would wear them anyways.

I can live my life on contacts. It only sucks during travels or water sport activities I suppose.
