The Other Premier League Fixtures Thread (old)

Absolutely, shut it down if we’re going back to that. Would honestly rather have nothing than empty stadiums again.

I actually really wanted to go up Leeds this Saturday in front of a full Elland Road. What a difference a week makes…I can probably see football being shut down (at least for fans) by Friday

What’s the issue exactly ? Hospitalisation rates through the roof ?

Zero chance you’re getting that I would have thought, TV companies accepting the festive period be shut down

Surely they won’t make money anyway with no fans in stadia…

Easier to impose a “winter break” of sorts and extend the season into June.

How long your “ winter break” gonna go for ? Covid will still be flying around all winter. Be hard fo cram 20 odd league games in from March onwards.

EPL might have to look at making it a March to December competition in years going forward.

They’re starting next season earlier as well due to having to have a break for the World Cup, so they won’t want this season dragging on late.

In that case, shit games in empty stadia is the only way going forward, through the festive period.

Abolish the season and sort the table by alphabetical order.

Champions again! :sunglasses:

They didn’t confirm it until midnight, lol

Probably a good thing while we’re chasing ManUre down.

An eventual fixture pile-up will not be what they want.

I’m reading that United has three players that tested positive? If so, why the fuck wasn’t our game vs Brentford postponed!?

Because the FA didn’t want the season opener and hype destroyed by Covid.

Tbh if it’s only 3, it’s absolutely pathetic the game isn’t going ahead.

We should be offered a replay vs Brentford.

It was 7 in Rugby League in the squad. 3 out of a bigger squad in a less physical contact sport really is poor.
Then football is a more blame culture sport and won’t use flexibility.

This never came out till after the game with us. We should of been making noise beforehand. Not good leadership by the people running the club at all that.
Direct impact on the start of our season. As we are seeing with others you make your own case.

True, but I’m still not sure they would’ve cancelled the match. I think the new wave has just as much impact as the outbreaks in the cancellations. This one seems to be spreading much faster than Delta. The cases are way up from August and climbing rapidly. There is a greater case now for how quickly a few positives can multiply.

What’s the weather like in the UK in August compared to a week out from Christmas ? Didn’t the UK have more cases in December 2020 than August 2020 also ? IMO it’s the time of the year more than the Variant as to why the cases are up.

Yes, time of year will always be factor. Viruses do tend to spread more in the winter. And with how bad last Dec and Jan were, you’d think they’d try to get ahead of it all and push the boosters sooner, but nope. But right now this is spreading faster than Delta from last winter. So it’s a combo. Numbers were always going to increase in the winter, but the pace of the increase is down to the variant. This is why the thought there will be a regular covid jab alongside the flu jab every winter.

Predictions and goalscorers…shoot!
