The Labour Party

Food intolerance: 20 cars.
Failure to thrive: 10 cars.
Tourettes: 230 cars.
Frozen shoulder: 150 cars.

Generalised anxiety: 1,030 cars.
Stress: 20 cars.
Depressive disorder: 7460 cars.

Enormous lack of context behind some of those figures that I’d want to know more about. Particularly I’d want to know if all of those are the primary need the car is being supplied for. And how free the car is as they’re not fully paid for in all circumstances.

But certainly it’s hard to imagine how food intolerance leads to access to the scheme if that’s what has happened.

Motability also helps provide my daughter with a wheelchair accessible vehicle so it’s not a frivolous scheme.

Agreed! I wasn’t mocking the scheme just the ridiculousness of the idea someone with a nut allergy needs a motability car and a blue badge.

I know someone on the scheme who would not be able to get around without it. So I am fully aware that it is a vital service for many, many people. And not just the means of a car but also ones with adaptations like wheelchair access among other things.

Worth mentioning if you’re upset about this stuff your anger should be directed at the government who can’t construct a coherent welfare system to save their lives.

Of course, because that isn’t the point. A lot of decisions are made with (apart from punishing easy targets) ‘saving money’ in mind (like telephone appointments, which is a lot easier to game).

All you have to do to be on the massive waiting list for an ASD or ADHD assessment is fill out a questionnaire and anyone who can Google signs of ASD and ADHD could game that.

I’m fairly convinced I have ADHD. I started to suspect it maybe a six months ago, looked up the indicators and when reading through the NHS’ list of around ten indicators was like, “absolutely fucking yes” to nine of them, with the other being like “hmm, yeah sometimes”

Just feels like a waste of time trying to get a diagnosis cos of the waiting list and my lack of desire to start taking drugs for it (maybe ignorantly assuming there’s no other help I could feasibly be offered outside of medication)

Zarah Sultana quits Labour to lead new party with Jeremy Corbyn

Zarah Sultana has quit the Labour Party after 14 years to co-lead a new party with Jeremy Corbyn.

The former Labour MP said she will work with the former Labour leader and “other independent MPs, campaigners and activists” from around the UK.

Sultana has called on other MPs and people to join.

She was suspended from the parliamentary Labour Party not long after the 2024 General Election, meaning she sat in the Commons as an independent MP.

She was suspended along with Corbyn, former Labour chancellor John McDonnell and Richard Burgon for rebelling against the two-child benefit cap.

But until very recently, she was still a member of the party.

Here comes that new left wing party

Hands down the most annoying voice you can hear in parliament. Like a very high-pitched whine.

This is not the most important comment here but I feel the need to share it.

What your view on Sultana?

Her involvement taints the new party for me

Can’t see this being successful. This’ll split the votes with Greens (Probably kill them off actually, but they weren’t much of use to anyone anyway)

Had a check her constituency has plenty of right-wing voters. Nearly lost the seat in 2019 with Corbyn as leader. While I don’t mind Corbyn his popularity outside of London electorally is dubious.

There’s also a problem of quitting like this, is giving the more centrist/right wing element of Labour exactly what they want.

We’re very aligned politically from what I’ve heard her say over the years, but I can’t say I follow her closely really, so I guess there might be divergences. Also have no idea if she’s competent, particularly intelligent, a good MP for her constiuents, or whatever.

What’s your objection? I can’t imagine you’re politically aligned with her, again from what I know of her, but on that basis I’d have thought you wouldn’t be a fan of this party in the first place.

How does she taint it in a way that Corbyn doesn’t?

Remember “Change UK”?

What a shitshow that was lol

The Independent Group? Absolute chancers lol. Confined to the dustbin of history. Didn’t they join the Lib Dems and they flopped.

Right to get going now either way. Probably won’t make an impact but they’ve no chance at all if they don’t build for a few years.

What’s the point in sticking around? They’ve been very effective in marginalising the left already, surely they might as well just fuck off and try to hurt Labour from the outside? Genuinely asking your opinion, not arguing.

With her I think sixth form politics and someone who doesn’t posses any particular political talent. When I think about the decline in quality of MPs, she one that sticks out in my mind.

There’s an air of credibility and respectability with JC due to his longevity in Parliament and stint as Labour leader. Whatever my critique he’s proven to be effective in organising, leading and motivating others to volunteer.

Contesting Islington N as an independent and winning earnt my respect, hijacking your constituency 1 year after an election doesn’t

Reform aren’t leading the polls just syphoning off votes from the Tories. They’ll be taking votes from Labour and everywhere else (inc. non voters). This new Corbynista may not be in time for 2029 but after that? When Reform hasn’t delivered, maybe. 2034? By then Corbyn will be 85. His involvment here may just to be a setup for Sultana to take the reins.

Just imagine: Boris-Truss-Sunak-Starmer-INSERT NEXT LAB PM HERE>Farage>Sultana.

Blimey.

It’s a fair question, I don’t know Jakey for sure. I think asking yourself whether you can outlast Starmer is a reasonable proposition.

@Leper Put this best, that this is a naturally right-wing country. For christs sake they gave the Tories 14 years and their response to that is a desire to try an even more populist/far right version of it.
