However, for the LB position on this occasion, I was looking for footballing ability so unfortunately had to go with Cole.

I remember when I thought Silvinho was one of the best left backs in the world ahead of Ashley Cole. Then we had to sell him because he came in on a forged Portugese passport

One door closed, another opened. Worked out the best for us in the end, although I doubt many thought it would at the time
