During one particularly grim time of my life, in order to keep a roof over my head I stayed in a hotel in Dover that largely housed asylum seekers. Nothing 5 star about it 
Had they stolen the roof off it ?

Mate, the place was barely fit for human beings. Proper end of the line stuff. It was one of the biggest reliefs of my life to get out of there.
It really fucking is. It’s hard work to get out of if you grow up there too.
Been to Dover many, many times, and not even to get to France. Truly an awful place.
However, Dover Castle and the secret war time tunnels in the white cliffs are brilliant.
