The Conservative Party

I genuinely hope they believe their narrative. That way they’ll have no qualms about calling an immediate general election to put their hypothesis to the test.

No wonder Rishi and Boris don’t want to give up their WhatsApp data.

I do wonder whether the inquiry has the legal jurisdiction to get the Police to retrieve the Whatsapp messages or at least request them from Whatsapp.

Johnson should be prosecuted and tried for his crimes during this period.

Criminal *alleged I guess. But we should find out in a court of law.

Most interesting for me in all of this is that Boris did not want to lock down. The UK had a pandemic plan in place, and along with WHO guidelines for a pandemic never included lock down

Cummings lists everyone as incompetent except himself. He and Cain ultimately pushed for lock down influenced by public opinion - Boris and thus government made a u-turn from mitigation (herd immunity) to suppression (lock down), implemented with no clear plan.

Why does this enquiry focus on why the lock down was delayed and not instead also ask the question, were Boris’ instincts not to lock down potentially correct, or the least bad of the two options?

Herd immunity was a disastrous plan which would have overwhelmed the health system. And was a sure fire way to a long lockdown.

The UK ‘plan’ was based on pandemic flu.

It was not a black and white choice between locking down and herd immunity, they were not opposite things. I don’t know why everyone acts like herd immunity meant no lockdown.

It wasn’t just Cummings. It was Whitty, Vallance (the govs experts, independent) that advised this based on the evidence. I’m disappointed they didn’t push back against disastrous gov decisions more openly.

And as this was a new virus, information changes rapidly and they should have been looking at what was going on internationally.

Who saw that coming? :grinning:

There’s been a bit of speculation recently that she wanted to be sacked before the next election because the Tories are likely to lose, and then stand for party leader when they inevitably replace Sunak.
