The conservatives aren’t really for the conservatives anymore are they?
And labour aren’t for the workers anymore either.
We are in such dire straits
Our money is for nothing.
At the conservative conference there was a Tony Blair institute tent… let that sink in
I find that hard to believe.
As a parent of a child like this, since the pandemic I’ve believed a great many people can be persuaded to think this way.
I’m nearly 50, and I don’t remember a time when benefit recipients weren’t demonized.
This is the Tories “In case of emergency, break glass” strategy.
I’m just the other side of 50 and you’re absolutely right.
My Tory parents indoctrinated me into thinking socialism was about “lazy poor people trying to steal all the money off hard working people like us” without mentioning that Conservatism was about “Rich people stealing as much money as they can off of everyone whether you’re lazy or hard working”.
If fear we are not far from civil unrest now.
Lol my whole life people on benefits was always denigrated especially during the labour era
That’s true too.
Haven’t seen it much recently but the term I remember being used a lot was “Scroungers”
It really went up a notch with those channel 5 TV shows from memory, around the early 2010’s. It’s all they seemed to show at one point.
It is a sad fact you’re alluding to. “Benefits” (it’s never “support”, “welfare” or “pensions” is it?) have been a toxic subject in politics and the media over the entirety of my 50 years regardless of who was in power.
It’s a diversion tactic away from the real scandal of tax evasion/cosy deals with tax havens/non-domiciles/contracts for pals/sweatheart deals with the HMRC.
The pigs only get their snouts out of the trough long enough to shout at us plebs to work harder.

Good riddance

Nothing lost there to be honest
Another tv personality politician. Makes sense for Sunak to cut loose weak links like this.
It took this long, this woman has been upsetting the conservative base for a while now.
