As City won the FA Cup today, it means we get to play them in the Community Shield on 6th August 2023. Already looking forward to a nice day out at Wembley.
We might actually have a decent chance of beating them in a community shield type game, theyâll be not long off finishing a long likely treble winning season, care factor for them will be minimal and we seem to have a great community shield record.
Itâll be like when Wenger finally beat Mourinho. Great to get the monkey off your back. But does it really count when itâs in a glorified friendly?
Mentally we need to beat them in the league, weâve had a couple of cup wins against them in the midst of this 12 consecutive league game losing streak.
If both teams put out strong teams, then of course it counts.
Yeah was gonna say, we have beaten them/Pep before. The issue is the league form as you say.
We tend to be decent in CS anyway, and Man City hit and miss - theyâve lost the last 2, to Liverpool and Leicester (they did field a shit team in that one to be fair). Be nice to win of course, always good to have good pre season form, but I donât think weâll be able to take much from it.
I canât remember the last time I actually watched one of these things.
I do think, conversely, that a defeat would set us up badly for the season.
Theyâd have to get it out of their minds pretty sharpish.
Yep and prepare for that inevitable Friday night trip to Luton
Weâre away on a family holiday in France
Gutted as Id love to have taken my boy to Wembley to see us play.
Will just have to wait for the FA Cup and Champions League final instead
2020 probably?
No actually. Itâs usually a nice day and canât get past the glorified friendly aspect of it now.
The teams wont see it as a glorified friendly, and neither will I. Itâs a chance to set a marker for the upcoming season.
City most definitely will. How did Liverpool season go with this marker?
Thatâs why you try to win
Itâs not going to be a trophy you gloat about, but the idea that itâs a meaningless fixture is absurd to me.
Taken me two years to even realise that we have a Community Shield thread lol
Its a better trophee than The Energy drink cup tbf
I dont even rate the League Cup at all, but thatâs totally wrong imo
I get what you mean, to some degree.
Summers can be quite nice without football, particularly in July, as you end up doing things with family and friends. Whether these things are spontaneous or planned, it adds to the pleasure.
When the football season hits again, part of me thinks âoh, this againâŚâ Just as I get used to it and start warming to it, that blooming first international break rears its ugly head
Iâve been to the last 3 that Arsenal have played with the exception of the one during Covid in 2020, and seen us win it three times. Always a good day out at Wembley.
