Super Mik Arteta

Very big few weeks for Arteta coming up, well it should be a very few big weeks. If the next month is underwhelming he should be out on his arse.

Ur a good lad  no deadline I’m just waiting until I get enough nominations and then we can have the vote open for the last few weeks of the year.

For me the club was shortsighted in appointing Emery (most likely thinking winning europa); however everyone knew Emery misused the assets he had at PSG and did the same thing at Arsenal. Equally arteta is trying to impose on an imprint on Arsenal but for me the team has no identity, nor a particular play style that we were used to under Wenger (we’d be lucky to control games).

It’s been almost four years since Wenger left Arsenal at some point the issues we have right now should be less because of him and more because of the current regime. Put it this way since he left the club has been throwing money at player (regardless of quality).

Let’s not talk champions League because that fucking legacy is pathetic in reality isn’t it?
Be really disappointing if you can defend that.

The main players of the Post-Wenger era have been getting plenty of flack. Gazidis is a hack, Raul is a crook. Emery got abuse (Bumery, football terrorist) and plenty of folk are not convinced by Edu.

I was saying when we win PL/CL trophies in the future I will be crediting Arsene’s legacy as part of that, in helping to allow this club to step it up a level spending wise. I did not allude to prior CL in a footballing sense in any way, so your response is somewhat disconnected.

But people still default to Wenger staying to long or making poor decisions before he left.

Your judgement is.

I have noted your animus towards Arsene Wenger in comments observed previously, as towards an extreme end as far as the spectrum of views on this forum. Just disappointed that you can’t let his net overall legacy be at peace, as a massive positive. Isn’t that how football icons and legends should be treated? I’m just saying that the psyche you have provides background to the disgraceful distance that resides between Arsene Wenger and the Emirates, still, where he still doesn’t feel like coming back to the stadium to smile and wave at our fans.

I found that strange, you see sir Alex Ferguson go to old Trafford every now and then but not Wenger to the emirate’s

Wenger doesn’t want to come back. It’s not because of the fans lol :joy::joy:

Honestly mate these fucking terms. Net over legacy.
I mean what is that in real terms. There’s two distinct eras in his career here. Unlike SAF it’s not as simple to come to a conclusive conclusion.

Agree to disagree. These arguments have gone back and forth between Arsenal fans over the last few years (about Arsene Wenger), and obviously are not going to be reconciled anytime soon. Normally I can get a good gauge on % fans holding different opinions, and trends with time also. That’s good enough for me.

I agree. His first half was legendary, yet his second half he kinda destroyed his own legacy. He never truly was able to adapt to the modern game after he modernised it.

SAF won the premier league in his last season here with an aging squad that most fans would have decimated for being too old and too imbalanced. He still did it though.

Meanwhile Wenger couldn’t even win it in the season where everyone was playing like a steaming pile of shite and Leicester ended up winning the league.

Speaking about Europe, the CL final aside, his track record is really disappointing.

Wenger just overstayed his time by a few seasons.

Arteta explaining why he didn’t drop Nuno Tavares after his off day at Anfield might be at odds a bit with his treatment of Pepe at times last season. Then again, the more he talks the more he can get into knots. I wasn’t against his retention of Tavares for the Newcastke game. I have been critical at times over his treatment of Pepe, although at present I am tending to side more against the player (Pepe) due to failing to convince when given the chance early this season, which is now his third season with Arsenal.

You’re holding the early season performances against Pepe? That doesn’t seem reasonable to me all things considered.

Issue is technical deficiencies still remaining despite this being his third season now. Gave benefit of doubt prior but it can never be endless.

I still feel arteta just wants his signings on the field rather than the previous managers.

I think Emery’s 5th was flattering, there were so many games in that unbeaten run where we should have lost but escaped with a result. That couldn’t and didn’t last, which resulted in the late season collapse.

Wenger while amazing in the majority of his time at Arsenal, stayed too long and started the decay. Look at the squad when he left, Mkhitariyan, Monreal, Chambers, Welbeck, Mavropanos, Kolasinac, Cech, Elneny, Mustafi…none of those are top 4 quality players…

Wenger did well considering the players he had, but he selected those players (whether budget was an issue is another story). The lack of investment in the squad from circa 2011, whilst at the same time other teams advanced is why we ended up where we are having to do a massive overall.

Yeah, that “lack of investment” around 2011 was of course tied to the long term sponsorship deals to support the stadium move, particularly the Nike deal. That was Arsene keeping us competitive through that period, and Top 4.

Problem is when it came around to 2016 and the Adidas deal which allowed us to fully unlock the power of the stadium move money was badly spent on players like Mustafi, Lucas Perez. etc., some arguably that were pushed on Arsene Wenger by Ivan Gazidis.

I still say the club had moved forwards during Arsene’s tenure, big time, only hindered by financial doping of certain other clubs and the TV deal which flattened the advantage of the new stadium somewhat. Arsene couldn’t have foreseen any of that when he started with his ambitious stadium move plan, and in many ways was cheated.

Nevertheless, after finishing 5th in Emery’s first season there was a chance to kick.on with 100m+ spend while Chelsea and United were still regrouping. The damage was spending that 100m on Pepe and Saliba, while clubs like Leicester, Wolves, etc. were spending well. That 100m badly spent wasn’t under Arsene’s watch. If it had been spent well we would still be comfortably Top 6 over the last two seasons, with legit shouts for Top 4, as the squad was being rebuilt.
