Honestly, if Saka was playing for anyone in that northwest armpit of England, we wouldn’t hear the end of the nauseating love-in for him. Because it’s Arsenal, there’s a handbrake to the praise.
Tbh I can live with that. We all know Saka is world class. If lazy punditry can’t tell the difference, it’s more fool them.
Be honest, I am not going to waste my time on some pundits to talk about Arsenal, especialy the non-Arsenal ex-players.
I don’t know the situation in England, but I’d rather listen to people (even random ones) to talk about the tactics, instead of some biased on talk about our players and manager and if we should celebrate or not in a subjective manner without facts and valuable information.
They never behave like a professional but act like a naive fans from other club.
I don’t really care what pundits think tbh. It’s pretty well-known that most of them are wrong a lot of the time, and this is not exclusive to football.
I do think the likes of Saka, Odegaard, Saliba, Rice and Gabriel are in that area where they are at a very high level for the position they play in.
It doesn’t really matter to me if someone considers them to be world-class, I’m just happy if they continue to do the business for us.
They’re not, but they are stacked with very good ones and they have some world class players in key roles; GK, forward and a world class creator. Klopp will have you thinking they bought their team with nothing but this is a 700m team.
I would say their world class players are Alisson, Virgil, Konate, Trent, Salah.
We have Gabriel, Saliba, Rice, Odegaard and Saka.
City have Ederson, Walker, Dias, Stones, Rodri, Silva, KdB, Foden and Haaland.
I would put Alvarez, Jesus and Jote in the same group as players that could be considered world-class but they have aliens to compete with like Haaland, and of course Kane.
It’s the fact you said “ at best “ is what I didn’t rate.
You couldn’t possibly see a team that had won 9 out of 12 home games beat a team that had lost 7 of 12 away games.
If you said something like, we really should be winning, but after the midweek disappointment I predict a draw. Then I’d be like a disagree, but fair enough.
IMO, it’s a bit of a joke to categorically say none of our players are World Class, which you did in your initial post that kicked this off, and then to say Jota might be.
I acknowledged your “maybe”, and as I said, not enough for me to think you get a pass for the statement.
But I appreciate that you’re just crazy negative about Arsenal, and inversely probably praise our rivals more than some others would.
Jota isn’t even close to world class. He always seems to be a nuisance against us or get a jammy winner but he’s not super consistent and too injury prone as well. Mad to even consider him imo.
Salah, van dick and Ali are fair enough. Partey and Saka for us, with the maybe award going to Saliba.
Apart from Salah, who has been much better than Saka in the PL?
So with Salah being arguably one of the best and most consistent attacking players in Europe then Saka, at such a young age, should be in the same category.
The only others that come close in the PL are Kane and De Bruyne who are past their best.
But if we’re talking world class young players, then Saka definitely is.
Ok he’s not world class then. I put Jota, Saka + Foden in that “maybe” category. I guess they’re almost there, but not yet. I do think Saka is the closest though.
But yes I stand by the statement that we don’t have any world class players (who are regularly available) - the fact that we’re doing as well as have without them is actually more impressive.
If that makes me a negative Arsenal fan that’s ok, I can accept that.
If we’re talking Liverpool’s best players, I’m putting Trent in that convo. Weak defender but I’d more than tolerate that for the numbers he puts up.
Not saying he is world class necessarily, given how nebulous and debatable that term is, but he’s clearly one of their standout players, and very few sides in world football wouldn’t want him putting up those numbers for them.
