Sokratis Papastathopoulos

What would that save us, like £4-5m?

That’s ridiculous. We didn’t do it for Kos, we shouldn’t do it for Sok.

I expect a nominal fee at the very least

Bloody well hope so. He probably wants us to let him go so that Napoli can use the transfer fee to bump his wages up.

If you’re that desperate to go, take a pay cut and we’ll sell you for a few million. I’d be shocked if we allowed it but given he’s out of contract next year, maybe he thinks he can pull it off.

Congrats to him, but I wonder if he would be up for relocating currently?

Best time to do it when the kid is just born.

I say that having had no kids and having no intention to have any.

We can’t sell him now. Babystathopoulos will grow up full of hatred and vengeance and will practice some ninja shit and come for us in 20 years.

Also the rest of our CB group are a collection of traffic cones, worse than this guy.

Naples sounds like a great place to raise a child

If true, what a great set of club to be associated with a fairly reliable yet average centerback.
He has done very well for himself.

I think most places are a great place to raise a child if you’re a multi-millionaire.

You gotta love all the players congratulating him with “Malaka”, which pretty much means “wanker”. Lacazette topped it off. He called his daughter a new “wanker”.

A flight from Athens to Naples won’t be as taxing for mother and newborn.

Nothing new on the Papa front?

With Gabriel, Luiz, Mari and Saliba all definitely top 4 choices, it’s hard to see where Sokratis fits in here. Still have to shift Mustafi and Holding as well.

Greece didn’t qualify for the Euros so that need to play won’t be a big motivator for him to leave. We might have no choice but to let him leave for fuck all.

In the end though, I’m glad we have tried to upgrade first - would have been awful if we hadn’t tried to sign Gabriel because we were fixated on selling first.

Does anyone else get the feeling hes one of the other players who didn’t take the pay cut along with Ozil, yah hes a bit shit a passing but under Arteta we have had about 20% possession and Luiz is the passer.

Seems strange as hes the best actual defender in the team.

Good point about the pay cut. Him and Ozil have been dropped completely for no other valid reasons tbh.

To be fair to players like Sokratis, why should they take a pay cut?

He’s an old player and will need that money.

We gave him a contract and are one of the richest clubs in Europe, in a business swimming in money.

Until Kroenke starts taking a pay cut, or has to start busking outside one of his ranches to supplement his income, why should any player?

If it’s true that the club tried to rush the pay cut on the players “just because” then they should have all rejected it.

Could have got a bit more, surely? Still every little helps and would save around another £5m on salary…Just need £36m from sales for Partey.
