If he’d just said that what matters most is the fans backing the club/team you’d have a different headline. But the most eye catching thing said was that he doesnt care if the fans back him. Even in context it’s just a weird thing for a manager to say imo because having the backing of fans does matter and because having the fans backing is mostly dictated by how well you and the team are performing.
This is just me, but it also seems like a blatant lie, I don’t for a second think that he doesn’t care if the fans back him or not. I think he’d definitely prefer to have the fans fully onside. It seems like performative indifference to me. As if it isn’t a bit crap going to work every week and having thousands of people pissed off and shouting at you instead of happy and supportive of the work you’re doing.
That specific sentence is the bit stood out to me anyway, it seems to me like an odd sentiment to express, so I guess it would be weird for me to then have an issue with it being highlighted in the headline.
I get what you are saying, but all in all, I think don’t say the whole sentence “I have got no interest in who is behind me.” if you don’t want that to be the headline. Even if I agreed with you and others here and felt it was unfair or misrepresented what he said, I’d still think that he is ultimately a fucking dumbarse for uttering those words in the first place.
That’s another whole point in itself and I don’t think there’s much debate around whether he could choose his words better.
Could be partly to do with the way things are in this part of the world, you don’t really see the same level of scrutiny over every word with the major sports here as you seem to in European football. A lot of the top sports coaches down here are kinda similar to him in some ways tbh.
That’s not to say it is the reason, just throwing it out there as something that may or may not be a factor.
I knew somebody would have this take, should’ve guessed it’d be Mr. Literal
Of course you have a point but I think it’s just typical of how disingenuous the media tend to be and it fucked me off.
They want to catch attention but the amount of people who won’t read the article and just assume poste has basically said ‘fuck the fans’, I find that unfair. Look at how many mugs believed we’d have 350m a week for the NHS because some cunts put it on the side of a bus, they probably still think it’s on its way.
He wants to attack like a Pep would but doesn’t have a team that controls and dominates games in the middle through posession, they don’t stifle games or take the sting out.
Way too back and forth like a basketball match, you won’t win the trophies like that
