I think the season fell apart on this game and selection.

Yeah didn’t they rest guys in the cup, go out and then get knocked out midweek anyway? I couldn’t remember if he even coached those games or it was his assistant though.

The assistant done the game. You have to think it’s on instruction and was sacrificed for the CL game.
Damaging loss that just invited and built pressure going into the AC game.

Hilarious that Conte is still officially in the job.

Maybe there is something to negotiate about how much they pay out for the rest of his contract but he’s only got two months left on his deal, it shouldn’t be that hard, especially compared to when you sack a manager with many years remaining.

Or it could be that they just have no clue what to do next.

After Conte initially turned spurs down, he was given an even bigger contract than Mourinho had, who was on around 15m a season, so they’re probably going to have to pay Conte more than 40m to leave.

This is fine for a club like Chelsea, who will have to pay Potter a similar amount to sack him, but spurs were relying on Conte to bring them success.
Instead he spent a record amount on players and has made them a laughing stock.

Also, if they don’t get a top four place, it will not only be a financial problem, they will struggle to find any top manager to replace Conte and any decent players as well.

As if it couldn’t get any funnier, while all this is going on, they’ve seen us go to the top of the PL and are title favourites. :grinning:

Conte has gone from 1/5 to 1/20 to be the next PL manager to leave his club.

Maybe spurs are going to take Redknapp up on his offer to be caretaker manager.

Wouldn’t they have sacked him by now if they were going to though? Feel like they’re just keeping him there out of spite

It’s actually in their best interests to keep him till his contract ends. He’s their best chance of securing CL football. Then they can part ways.

He probably gets a bonus if they reach the CL. Knowing what Levy did with Mourinho, he probably will sack him to prevent that.

Why would they need to pay 40mil his contracts up this summer. Put him on garden leave till his contract up an get old arry in

I’ve been told that it’s because Levy inserted a clause into Conte’s contract that if he denigrates the club/club’s stature he can be fired without any pay-off and the club lawyers are going through the contract during the break with the purpose of being able to relieve him of duty in the next week or two.

Apparently Conte has been told to stay away from the training grounds and stadium and has had his access revoked as well.

It will be interesting to see what happens if they drop out of the top four places.
Their supporters are already fed up, so keeping Conte will put Levy under more pressure and he won’t want to take all the blame himself.

It’ll be expensive for them to sack Conte but he’s not going to stay much beyond this season anyway and after his criticism of the club and players, it might be better to get rid of him.
But it’s a lot more entertaining if he stays. :grinning:

Dropping out of the top 4 night actually do them good, they need a total project rebuild. Though the unfortunate and hilarious thing is that if they drop out they might not be in it again for a very long time.

Why keeping Conte is a problem, but keeping Levy is okay???
The fucker is a failure.

With the stadium debt they’ve accrued I think it’s a financial disaster for them

Ah the old Wenger paradox. With EPL money being what it is these days I actually think they’ll be ok. Though I never bought into Wenger’s rehetoric that we simply couldn’t be competitive because of the stadium debt.

Yep. Their income is about 4 times what ours was when we started building the Emirates and they have done way better than we have in turning the stadium into a cash cow too.

That’s why Levy keeps bringing NFL games and concerts to the ground. It’s meant to become a destination, like Madison Square Garden. It’s actually a perfect analogy since the Knicks are similarly irrelevant as a sporting enterprise but exist in the major American city.

I hope you don’t manage your own finances.

I agree, but he would also say that we can compete financially with any club in Europe for super quality players and then when it suited him, use having to pay for the new stadium as a convenient excuse.
So it’s ironic that when Wenger did actually start spending big he dropped out of the top four places.
