I admire your willingness to continue to die on that Wenger hill.
Here is some more context:
Leicester City is the only Premier League champion since 1995 to have spent less on wages than the medium in the Premier League. With an annual wage bill of £64 million, Leicester City is the Premier League’s champion that has spent by far the least money on wages. This is even more impressive when you consider the fact that the Premier League has gone through “inflation” over the past decade since the injection of capital from rich Russians and Middle Eastern owners.
Don’t let that context distract you from dying on that hill.
Among Premier League clubs in the 2015/2016 season, Leicester City spent the fourth lowest in terms of wages for the season. In contrast, Chelsea was the highest at £209 million but yet did not even finish in the top 4 for the year.
Even shit clubs don’t let themselves embarass like this, and that by a team that was equal in talent to our team, or you going to tell me Ashley Young and Welbeck were heads and shoulders above ours? That would be funny:
And where are we now? Now we have spent loads and loads of money? Because of the healthy sustainable financial position Wenger got us in
The board should’ve spent money if we had money to spend they should’ve forced signings through. We should’ve won more and done more. But our board didn’t want risks. I don’t agree with how it was run, but it happened and we remained a top club
At that point how many pl trophies did Stoke Sunderland spurs pool Newcastle villa win?
Since the decline started with Wenger, there is little reason not to think that the decline would have seen us in 7th or 8th place under Wenger as well at this point in time.
Inductive reasoning, my friends. Try it and come back to this topic on Wenger.
He told us that “we only buy super quality” and that “he wasn’t afraid to spend”: while persisting with players that were nowhere near good enough.
Look at the money he wasted on Xhaka, Mustaf, Lacazettei and Perez.
Who else is to blame?
Just because we’re mid table doesn’t make Wenger a genius for scraping a top four place., t means that we’ve employed useless managers since he left.
The board are just as much to blame for keeping Wenger for too long as they are for employing useless managers.
No idea, he was shit at the end we played horrible football ( occasional game here and there was good) I get the feeling he worked this hard and sacrificed his status to steady Arsenal and leave them in a strong position he wanted to stay on to spend the money but he only got half a season with aubamyang and ozil
I will because I expect our club to challenge for the title every year. So to me and millions of other Arsenal fans, not challenging for the title and finishing top 4 20 points behind the league winners is laughable, doesn’t matter where we are now, finishing 5th, 10th, 3rd is always going to be seen as failing for a club of this stature, wealth and following.
Agreed that window was horrible and it confuses the fuck out of me. I am only arguing the whole wengers greatest failure being the 2016 season or whatever, when he wasn’t supported yet other clubs spent 100s of millions.
Many top managers take over clubs that are not financially dominant and do shit. Ancelotti mourinho etc, Wenger just had a knack at consistency. But lost the knack of being ruthless
The club has shown to not be willing to provide the resources needed to challenge for the title.
Expecting Wenger to magically get the club to challenge is unreasonable.
yes you may have some miracle in the game here & there but logically it is very unreasonable to expect any manager to challenge for titles while we go for bargain purchases like Denis Suarez
