Roméo Lavia

I’m totally unhappy with LFC strengthening their squad in general and getting Lavia.

I’d rather get him this summer, loan him out for the season and have him back when Partey departs because it seems inevitable that Partey is leaving next year.

It would be ideal but the club spending another 50m on top of the 200m we’ve already spent on a player to send him out on loan, is unlikely.

Although I certainly agree that him going to Liverpool means they are a lot stronger in midfield than they have been in recent seasons, especially with the other signings they’ve made.

Maybe the Balogun money and likely departure of Lokonga means we will go for him

If Arteta wants Lavia we can offer 30m and give them Lokonga and Holding as part of the deal. :grinning:

Seems £50m is the actual benchmark for anyone who’s not an Arsenal player now

It’s nuts really.

I remember when we spent £42m on Özil thinking we were going to be financially ruined by it. I guess that was the other extreme, the Arsène Mugabe years.

Got me thinking about that transfer… I have a feeling that was literally yesterday… Can’t fucking believe that was 10 (TEN!!!) years ago.

Will be a shrewd signing for Liverpool, under Klopps tutelage has the talent to produce a season like Caicedo just had.

Considering what we paid for Rice and Chelsea will pay for Caicedo, they’ll probably look back at it as a huge bargain.

is it the time to “over” spend a bit right now, rather than wait for next year and Partey’s departure?

Next year Lavia (for example), will cost a lot more, if we are interested in him still.

Would be great to get him in but I think it was either a matter that our interest was never that high or Partey had to leave for a similar profile player to be signed

Just isn’t feasible to spend so much on him with Partey staying unfortunately because I think he’ll be a huge hit for Liverpool

If we were going to go with Rice AND Partey most of the time, Lavia would make so much sense as a signing. Because we seem not to be going that route, it is unlikely we spend 50m on another midfielder.

I’d love Partey, Rice, Jorginho and Lavia as CM options, Havertz and Odegaard for the ten with the likes of Nenny, ESR, Zinny and V***a on the periphery. Man City level depth.

You think we haven’t overspent already?

to be honest, nope.

we closed the Havertz and Timber deals very fast, and Rice was expected to be around 100m.
I don’t think spending 200m was our actual budget limit.

Maybe we need to sell a player or two, but spending another 50m (necessary or not is another topic) won’t cause us problem.

Blowing a big chunk of the budget on Havertz doesn’t worry you?

We overspent on both midfielders

because we blow a big chunk on him without sweat, don’t underestimate our spending power

I guess, maybe I’m still jaded from the Pepe deal.

You’re probably right, but after years of missing out on targets I dont give a fuck.

Xabi Alonso can be bought for 18m? Lets bid 14m and then walk away.

It’s the equivalent of bidding 90m for Rice and then walking away cos they want 100m plus 5m in add ons.

Fuck that forever.

Mark Schwartzer for 10m? Nah, better ride with Almunia.
