If you’re referring to the Sky Sports report about us having just £100m to spend, important to remember (as Sky clarified) that this isn’t the total value of the transfers we can afford this summer, but the total amount we can pay towards transfers this summer i.e. what we can pay upfront.
Kieran Maguire had this to say about our financial position in an article a few days ago.
"Record revenues of £616m in 2023-24 are likely to be exceeded thanks to the expanded Champions League format and extra broadcast revenue, while the sales of homegrown duo Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah in the past 12 months brings about £50m of pure profit.
“As the most profitable club in Premier League history, Arsenal could easily spend over £200m in the window and have no PSR concerns,” said Maguire.
Signing all three of Zubimendi, Sesko, and Rodrygo seems totally doable if that’s a genuine possibility. But I’m sure we’ll pretend to be a bit more skint in the interest of negotiating down fees.
Seems clear that we can spend big…time to be excited! ![]()
In all seriousness if we couldn’t there would be no point in appointing Berta. Spend a lot of money to bring in a top DOF and then get him to sit on his hands.
Some interesting Rodrygo stats on goal contributions per number of minutes by each position (Real Madrid only).
LW - every 92 minutes (24 contributions in 2217 minutes)
RW - every 129 minutes (63 contributions in 8154 minutes)
CF - every 179 minutes (30 contributions in 5362 minutes)
Clearly he’s not really somebody you want playing through the middle. But I think this strengthens the case that he’s potentially a very undervalued player who has been forced to play not just out of his best position (LW) but also often in his third best position (CF) during his time at Madrid.
Give him the LW spot at Arsenal and let him cook.
I refuse to believe we get a free run at Rodrygo. Would be a superb signing for us tho
Rodrygo, Sesko, Zubi is still a 7/10 window for me.
Not convinced with Sesko and CAM is still a huge concern.
That said, it’d be great if we could get these over the line first.
Nketiah as Odegaard’s backup next season?
Hopefully

We have another Nketiah!?
There’s an argument none of these are his best position.
There isn’t an argument but I’m sure you’ll try to make one lol. I’m sure you’re going to tell us his best position is as a 10 or something like that when it’s clear as day his favoured position is the left and therefore the position you’ll get the most out of him.
Should be quite doable if the price really stays in that range.
Don’t knock it until you’ve see him there. He’s a very good playmaker.
The fact he wants to play off the left definitely has something with him preferring to cut in and operate through the middle.
Your opinion is fine and I respect it but Rodrygo is a left winger that’s where he wants to play and for very good reason too. It suits him game and gives him the variety to both cut in and also hug the touch line a bit. He gets the best of both worlds being on the left.
Yep.
Even if he likes to play centrally that wouldn’t be an issue considering we have no left sided CAM in our sqaud.
Both Sesko and Gyokeres are very mobile/fast, having Rodrygo cutting inside with them drifting to the left would still be a great balance.
Having one of them as a stiker doesn’t force you to have a out and out wide man (like Nico) to cover the flank.
Would be brilliant if we could add Rodrygo to one of them.
Sure, his versatility is a bonus. There could be games where we’re struggling to break down teams and could use him as a left 8 or a false 9 which is handy.
If we sign him for anything close to £75m I expect an apology in the mail @Flexo.
That price tag has to be an exaggeration. Vini is their starting LW and he’s not worth that.
If true they’re simply pricing him out of a move. If I were Rodrygo I’d be pissed (if true).
