Reuell Walters (76)

Hopefully he plays so well that he isn’t allowed to wesr the number 76 next season because we don’t allow first teamers to wear numbers higher than 40 :sunglasses::sunglasses:

The template for doing this would be what Pep did with Rico Lewis last year - have him make every squad, give him some garbage time minutes at the end of any match where you are up 3+ goals, but then at some point take the plunge and give him a real run in the team starting 5-6 matches. You don’t have to keep him in the team forever but if you don’t give him that run then he won’t get to the point where you can actually rely upon him for anything important.

I just have a hard time seeing Arteta doing that but it would be interesting.

He looks great in clips. Powerful, rangy, very technical CB. Drives with the ball, loves having at his feet. The modern ball playing centre half.

CB is a high profile position though, a lot of pressure. A youngster is far more exposed there than at fullback for example. 18 is very, very young as well. His involvement with the senior team will need to be managed very carefully.

He’s very young for a CB but Adams started in our first team at around the same age, then was made captain a couple of seasons later and lifted three League trophies.

He looked great in the brief time he played during friendlies the past two years.
He’s built like a brick shit-house.

If there’s a Hale End kid who could potentially help us out that’s vastly preferable to a last minute signing.

best of luck to him

As a Rheuell of thumb, players from Hale End tend to take time to bed in, but if he does hit the ground running, and exceed expectations, then the Timber injury will be Walters under the bridge.

Start him against PSV and then go from there. Could he really be any worse than Cedric as an emergency option?

Forgive me for being sceptical….

I read an Athletic piece months ago describing what a special talent Reuell is and how he’s destined for big things. But we’ve seen very little of him, not even in the Carabao.

If we don’t see him vs PSV or make any minutes during the festive period it’s probably never gonna happen here.
