Reality TV

@Gladiator Alright hotshot, that was a good one. It’s a whole other debate whether watching this show confers “weak minded” status, but I cba to get into that. My weak mindedness coming through again I suppose :sunglasses:

In any case, you see girls / guys who are like that all the time. I mean I have friends like that. They get overpowered or covertly manipulated / pressured into a relationship type situation by somebody who is more dominant than them.

@Calum I’ve watched two episodes where this Eyal / Alex shit has kicked off. I’m not gonna lie, it’s entertaining as fuck but I’d never have got into it unless my missus put it on. It’s basically Big Brother with more tiddies and ass

I don’t watch BB either. If I’d watch reality TV it would be the survivor type. And hey, don’t get offended, it was a light-hearted joke, I have nothing but respect for you. I saw an opportunity and took advantage, I’m slimy like that :sunglasses:

Eyal really grinds my gears lol

Since the moment he first opened his mouth I’ve hated him. His whole persona is an absolute act, it couldn’t be clearer.

Also, he’s won the battle with Alex. He got chosen, she loves snogging his face off, stop being such a little bitch because Alex is still trying in vain to crack on. He could easily afford to be the bigger man given his position of strength.

Hahaha I can almost feel the heat behind this post, you’ve been absolutely seething with this love island chat lately, haven’t you?! :arteta:

I will not be triggered lol. I’d like to imagine a man of your intellect doesn’t actually believe this, but then again you do watch it so can’t be too sure

@Electrifying
Does it show? Haha.

I actual love how pissed off mm is at people watching love island :joy::joy:

You seem a bit too bothered for a man insisting he won’t be triggered

But nah, of course I don’t believe that. The show is totally trash, but I can get into trash from time to time.

You’ll see less of me posting about it because I’ve already let my girlfriend know that her Love Island privileges are about to be revoked now that it’s World Cup season, luckily she likes football so I can get away with that haha

I really just can’t watch these types of program, it’s quite literally bad for my blood pressure.

Real Housewives, Towie, Chelsea, the Kardashians, Van Der Pumps, Below Deck… oh god.

I’m a die hard Lib Dem centrist but watching these programs and seeing these total fucking mouth-breathing idiots become super wealthy millionaires spending their money on all sorts of superfluous bullshit when there’s ridiculous income inequality in society and budget cuts to all of our essential public sector departments, it stresses me out so much I feel like I’m getting an ulcer. I can literally feel my heart racing, blood pressure spiking, and it makes me want to run for office on a Marxist-Leninist platform and make everyone wear grey jumpsuits and earn £500 a month and just eat the rich.

These programs, to me, highlight EVERYTHING that is wrong with our society today. EVERYTHING. And I don’t just means the fucking morons getting rewarded for being morons and being irresponsible with the money and influence they get from acting like morons, but also the people that watch it. Having to watch awful people just be awful to feel better about yourself and get this weird moral sense of superiority is pretty lame. And sad too! Surely as a society and individuals we have more going for us to feel good about than just watching this shite? “Haha look at me, I’m not a total cunt that treats women pieces of shit! What a wanker, I’m so much better than him” or “Hahaha look at those stupid bitches, they don’t even know what Brexit or the EU is! Never mind the fact they probably can a low education, low income social background where society and the educational system failed them as children, I know what Brexit is so I’m a much better person continues to furiously wank my ego to a pathetic, dribbling orgasm

And if we really don’t have anything else to make us feel better about ourselves than these types of shitty programs, we need to take a long hard look at ourselves and see where it is we’re going wrong.

No one actually cares about these people’s lives or stories, they just care about how horrible they are to each. It’s all extremely negative and I don’t like it. Gaining so much pleasure from something so cancerous as others nastiness is not the right direction for our society.

There’s basically two groups of people that watch these programs: the idiots that idolise and want to be these people, and then the people who get gratification and pleasure and stroke their own ego from judging others which is pretty unpleasant in itself.

Then there’s the whole thing about the fact that there are people, from all sectors and industries, white collar or blue collar, who will work twice as hard as these reality star fucks but will never see a fraction of the kind of money they make. Society at large is constantly complaining about income inequality and how unfair budget cuts are and how hard it is to save and how our pensions are fucked and stagnant wage growth and yet they go and fucking fund the lifestyle of these reality tv stars who literally do nothing but pose for a camera. It’s not even like they’re actors who have to go on set or location and act in a challenging role or a footballer who has to train for hours a day to become a top athlete, these fucking people just go on holidays all the time paid for by the viewing public and the only cost is having a camera crew filming you for a couple hours a day.

We’re all fucked.

I gave up on that less than half way through. Hilarious how worked up you’re getting :joy:

I’m surprised you don’t agree with me given your political leanings to be honest.

This kind of tv is basically what the left was established to oppose.

Edit: But yeah, I agree, I get way too worked up over it but politically and socially I just absolutely hate what these programs stand for. I genuinely can’t watch this type of tv.

I can reconcile the hedge fund manager that earns £50m a year shorting FTSE companies much easier than I can reconcile some TOWIE cunt earning £10m a year just for running her gob on tv in some poorly scripted shitshow of a club row.

Television didn’t even exist when the left was established so I’m not really sure what you’re on about lol.

You’re just reading far too much into a silly television programme.

The program is indeed extremely silly and vapid, but it’s popularity and the earning potential of it’s “stars” and their ilk is indicative of a much larger issue at the heart of society.

I’ve never once hear you make a single noise about income inequality, you’ve chimed into many a discussion about politics and you’ve never said a single thing that suggests you’re economically left wing, at all. But when people are talking about Love Island all of a sudden your Jeremy Corbyn Jnr.

It’s fine to hate the show and what it says about our celebrity obsessed culture. I totally get that and don’t disagree really, it just doesn’t bother me because Love Island is merely symptomatic of our celebrity obsessed culture, it isn’t the cause. I just don’t understand why you’re cloaking your valid criticism of the show in some sort of left wing, economic inequality argument, when you’ve never been about that.

It just seems odd that only now are you fussed about who earns what. It seems a bit snobby to me.

But I didn’t mean to engage you in a debate, I was laughing in a friendly way at how worked up you were getting. It was amusing rather than annoying to me

OA awards need to be brought back. That post has never been bettered on any subject since ive been a member here. Really well Articulated @Cristo.

Tbf @Cristo is right

I was think this a few weeks ago, that the huge success of Keeping up with the Kardashians shows why this current societal system is completely corrupt.

Kim Kardashian etc do this kind of pointless work that really should never be as profitable as it is, and the prevalence of these kinds of pointless jobs is something that is against Left wing, and probably most of society’s, ideals.

The prevalence also speaks to decadence of our society tbh, especially as reality stars become politicians and political activists act like reality stars.

:joy::joy: it’s a TV show. Calm the fuck down haha

Oh yeah I know, I’m the first to admit the way I get worked up over it is absurd and funny.

I just try and avoid it at all costs.

Agreed, but I feel like the fact that Love Island is the most widely watched program in the UK right now and is getting all this insane hype propagates the issue and encourages it even more. It just really grinds my gears.

Politically, I’ve always been hard to really place on the political spectrum as I agree with policies from both ends. However I come from a family with a strong low income working class background (my parents were able to claw their way out to a middle class setting) I have a lot of family members that can be defined as “poor” and so when I see Kim Kardashian or whatever spending £400,000 on a crystal encrusted ferrari or whatever because she has a big arse and shagged a rapper it really winds me up.

It’s not like I’m totally against millionaires or wealth or whatever, I just think it needs to be within reason and to have been gained through a way that provides utility and worth to society at large. Why not spend £100,000 on a car and then use the other £300,000 on a grant for tuition fees for low income kids or a homeless charity or whatever. That kind of thing. I’m not against luxury, I’m just against absurd luxury basically.

Anyway, this blew up way more than I meant it to and I know there’s no hard feelings! It’s just a topic I can talk at length about haha
