Although it could be argued they already pay 1500 quid for no product even when fans can attend.

I’m not sure it hurts KSE in the short term too much.
I think the club still had over a 100m cash reserve which fans have generated over the years. So they have the option of just running that down and they can always reduce the cost base if they wish.
Long term it means the club is worth less if they sell ie every pound of surplus cash usually adds a pound to club value on resale of the business.
Possibly the 100m would’ve been spent on the team but I guess now we’ll have less to spend due to the need to fund lost revenues with the money instead.
If he’s such good buddies with Mendes why didn’t get Pepe on loan with an option to buy rather than light 70m on fire?
