I wonder when big clubs will realise that these long-term projects that will lead them to great glory and self sustainability are less likely than finding a four leaf clover.
In fact, I wonder how much money these teams have actually wasted sacking their “long-term” managers to get new “long-term” managers, and selling these “long-term” players that flopped for an often significant loss, only to spend more money on new “long-term” players that often enough flop as well.
For the same or less money you could have invested on proven managers who can do a job for 2-3 years, proven players who can do a job for 2-3 years, and challenge for the big trophies like a proper big club.
Most of them don’t actually have long-term projects. They’re just being copycats. They don’t really believe in it. ‘Project’ is just an easy explanation to sell. Especially to nerdball ‘Intellectual’ weirdos whom eat it up like candy.
When we were starting out, the talk was about copying Dortmund’s ‘model’. Obnoxious terms like ‘sale value’ was rife. Every transfer was analyzed around the framework of whether the player could fetch a higher fee a couple of years later (Some people think Partey was bad transfer lol). No one even talks about Dortmund anymore.

Yep. I don’t think these teams realise how tough it is to nail a long-term project.
Even when we did it, we got it wrong the first few years, even under Arteta initially. To pull it off you need everyone aligned, loads of patience but also lots of luck as well.
