Saddest thing about his Corinthians run is that he was about 20-25kg overweight (and roughly 30kg off his prime weight). If he could just knuckle down a bit and bring his weight down to the mid 80s he would have gone to 2010 World Cup.

He talked about how he’d make a huge sacrifice and lose weight so he could end his career on a high but he never did it. I think in the end it turned out he had a combination of thyroid issues and just the obvious lack of discipline.

Would be hard to think of too many players his age and condition that could still have played like that though lol. He was 33-35 in that run, had 3 major knee injuries and was severely overweight yet still scored goals for fun.

Yep that’s him. Outrageously good on his day.

Soon as I saw his belly bulging over the edge, I knew that glass barrier wasn’t surviving the video lol

Just watched an Arsenal game from 20 years ago, Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal. Not an amazing game by any stretch, but the rhythm of play was far more captivating than what we see today.

Ashley Cole
So assured at left back. Joe Cole never really laid a glove on him. Ashley was right at the top of his game here.

Reyes
Always a threat. Should have won a penalty, and with VAR he definitely would have. He would get booked for diving after getting his heel clipped following a nutmeg on Glen Johnson.

Pires
Old but still played with class and elegance. He rattled the bar and then was through one on one with Cech but skewed his effort wide when he should have scored.

Bergkamp
Poor outing. Should have been subbed earlier than the 75 minute. Arsenal’s big issue after the opening spell was upfront. Every time Bergkamp dropped deep, Arsenal would eventually work the ball forward, but have no focal point. Huge contrast to Drogba who was always stood up top on the last line.

Carvalho and Terry
Absolutely rock solid. Bergkamp got nothing out of them all game. He had no answers, and the pair never looked troubled.

Makelele
Physically tough, quietly dominant. Very similar to Caicedo in his style of play and the way he broke things up.

Drogba
Senderos held his own for the opening 20 minutes, but quality always shows. Drogba started to get the better of him as the game wore on.

I actually watched AC Milan - United (2005 CL second leg) yesterday. Watch it if you get a chance. Just total defensive shut down

I might watch the above later today I bet I’ll enjoy it way more than today’s game.

Bothers me how Reyes never fulfilled his potential he was the perfect signing for us to transition to the post Pires / Ljujngberg era that was on the horizon.

Ohh, the 2004/05 0:0. I still remember that Pires crossbar, almost broke it.

Didn’t we play that game with Flamini and Fabregas in the middle, after all of Vieira, Gilberto and Edu were out?

We did great against that brilliant Chelaea team considering the players we missed.

Yeh, he caught the ball flush.

Both Gilberto and Vieira were in the middle. Cesc played from the right but would float centrally.

They did well. Certainly had the measure of them. The lack of a focal point was glaring and hindered the Arsenal attack after minute 20.

Gudjohnson was a tidy player. He connected the midfield and attack well

Ohh, then I surely mixed it with the 2:2 we game in the other PL game of the season. I’m sure we had Flamini and Fabregas starting one of those games. I definitely remember expecting us to have massive issues with such an inexperienced midfield but we did well in the end.

We maybe missed Henry in that 0:0 one though.
