Challenge
Pick your best World 11 from players you have seen since you were born (no one from before your birth). However, you can only have 1 player from each country and 1 player from each club! It’s tough and will take your a day at least
-From WhatsApp, warning it’s addictive and you may struggle to continue with your workday afterwards
*To clarify the rules, we did the club the player is most associated with, and in cases of a tie (Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Ca$hley etc.) they count for both.
*Also, no bollocks 2-4-4 formations, make an actual viable team.
Here’s mine:
Henry (FR, Arsenal), Ronaldo (BR, Madrid), Messi (AR, Barça)
De Bruyne (BEL, City), Pirlo (ITA, Milan/Juve), Lampard (ENG, Chelsea)
Robertson (SCO, Liverpool), Godín (UR, Atléti), Vidic (SRB, United) Lahm (GER, Bayern)
Chilavert (PAR, Vélez)
Hurt not to put a Spanish player in there , thought about Marchena but I just can’t see a case for Marchena and Oblak being better than Godín and Chilavert
Chilavert over Neville Southall? Madness.
Tried this the other day. It’s a nightmare checking players previous clubs though.

This one’s a bit easier I reckon

^that’s why this makes it much more interesting tbh
Yeah me and some mates in a WhatsApp group were trying this the other day. It’s so hard. So far, only one of us submitted a team, this was his
I guess the trick is to try pick players who were one team men and play for shit countries. Unless you’re going to cheat as you’ve outlined above. We went by the rules that even if a player only played 1 game at a club, if you pick that player, you can’t pick anyone else who has ever played for said club.
How does Xavi get chosen over Messi lol, or Pepe over Ronaldo/Cristiano
Madness.
Even if I was going by the strict rules my team would be much better than that.
I haven’t studied his team to be honest. But he’s a West Ham fan so allow him…
Just realised my team is a 4-4-3
By strict rules:
Ronaldo, Messi
David Silva, Pirlo, Sneijder, Rosicky
Robertson, Koulibaly, Terry, Lahm
Chilavert
That team fucks your friends’ team. Took me long enough though, fucking Lampard playing for City wtf!
Nope, it’s no good, Ronaldo and Sneijder both played for Inter. Would have to put in gay Ronaldo there for fat, but I refuse to leave fat out of the lineup being the 2nd best player I have ever seen after Messi (not counting dudes like Maradona I watched before I was 7-8).
I dont get it. I thought you were saying a club and country can only appear once. But you can have Henry and Messi if you label one as Arsenal and one as Barca, likewise with de Bruyne and Lamps?
Just trying to figure it out before I devote a day of my life to this pursuit and make my mates do it too
AC is using his own rules. The way this first appeared online (Jamie Carragher I think?) was that you could only use a club or country once, all clubs the player has played for count.
I like it more that way, I can devote some real time to this entirely pointless but amazing pursuit.
*To clarify the rules, we did the club the player is most associated with, and in cases of a tie (Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Ca$hley etc.) they count for both.
Yeah, me and my friends changed the rules a bit to make it a bit more fun, but yeah, it’s fun as well with the strict rules.
Agreeing on a player being jointly associated with two clubs is frankly a mess I can do without, I’ll be playing this with a bunch of Chelsea fans, I don’t need to provoke conversation about Ashley Cole if I can help it.
The older you are the harder this gets. I’ve gotta leave two out from Maradona, Cruyff and Messi. FFS.
Don’t cry for me Argentina but Johann is in.
Alright, I did it:
(fat) Ronaldo, Messi
De Bruyne, Pirlo, Cazorla, Okocha
Robertson, Koulibaly, Ferdinand, Lahm
Chilavert
This one club rule is strange anyway. I will associate Sneijder more with Ajax than Inter. Most people will associate Brazilian Ronaldo more with Madrid or the national team than with Inter. That will differ per person. So what counts?
Yeah, that second lineup is by the firm rules (one game for inter rules you out—had to take Lampard out of a possible lineup cause he has played for city, for example).
Still, pretty proud of my two lineups. Okocha was inspired, even if perhaps Mlinkivoc Savic might make a better team haha.
Now to see if I can actually work.
They’re showing a rerun of Leicester City 5-3 Man United on Sky.
Lovely match
