Premier League star arrested on suspicion of rape

Who cares what women teams think? An accusation doesn’t make you guilty we don’t live under mob rule or guilty until innocent. Plus he doesn’t play for any woman’s team so I think they are safe if he is one

Women should hold the exact same opinion as men on it. If I was playing in the women’s team my view would be, well there can’t be clear evidence, give him the benefit of the doubt. Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

You mean at this stage. I doubt if a charge comes it’s viewed this way.

Oh of course. And if/when that happens we’ll all have the right to alter our opinion.

Would a club have access to evidence?

I’d imagine they’d have access to the player and their solicitor.

Doesn’t that become client-attorney privelege they’re breaking? Genuine question.

Not if the client consents for information to be shared. And I would suppose in a case such as this where the support of an employer would be a significant factor in salvaging a career, they probably would. Again, that is a guess and an assumption on my part.

Things are starting to look a little bitter for whichever playing is being accused.

The club is standing by a player who hasn’t been charged with an offence there’s nothing wrong with that.

This is the climate that has been cultivated over the last few years. A mere accusation should end your career as if you were guilty

The argument being put forward in that article is dressed up as something else but it’s just arguing people accused of these offences should be treated as guilty until proven innocent which is the opposite of the principle behind criminal law in this and most countries. And I can’t think of an offence where innocent until proven guilty is more necessary.

Most men would rather be accused of murder than of rape, that is how bad the accusation of rape is to a man’s life.

The pendulum swings. Rape has basically been socially acceptable since the dawn of time. Now the pendulum is swinging the other way. Even accusations of rape are enough to basically ruin a life. We’ll land in the middle, eventually. It would be awesome if people just didn’t rape.

I try to be measured, wait for facts, and judge based on those. Seems like everyone has an opinion on Partey’s guilt or innocence, when he hasn’t even been named as the player in question. Assumptions.

It’s complicated though. Look at the Trevor Bauer situation. There were multiple allegations, arrests, investigations and prosecutor offices that declined to charge. MLB was still within its rights to suspend him for the duration of the investigation.

The difference is that we don’t have the same privacy laws which meant once he was arrested, everyone knew about it.

A PL team – depending on the labor laws in the UK – could suspend a player pending the end of the investigation.

They could but right now it’s an allegation and facts are being gathered and enquiries being made.

If it comes to charges being made then it will be a different story I’m sure and that’s how it should be especially when the player is vehemently denying the accusation/s.

The club must off looked into/investigated the matter hence his exclusion from Germany

I really don’t think the player would still be active if the club didn’t think they had reason to be confident he was going to be cleared.

The club is pre season and could simply seeing how the reaction goes. Gets vocal enough and sponsors get twitchy the player will be dropped.
If its low key enough they roll with him for now.
