I won’t accept its over yet. We absolutely fucked it the last 2 games and there’s a good chance we end up chasing two teams now after today…its very unlikely, not yet impossible.
they better damn well get reinforcements even loans in Jan or we are cooked.
Seen enough from us over the last month to say we won’t win it. I’m so checked out right now with regards to any title challenges.
More full backs and another GK probably ![]()
The PL Title was over for me the moment we lost to Newcastle - maybe even before that.
Said we’d finish 3rd, curious to see whether we do better or worse than that.
Funny people still say this but we have ended up needing our defensive players. If we didn’t sign them then we’d be saying the depth isn’t there.
For me the issue is the lack of another good wide player. I understand why we might not have signed one last summer, because Martinelli was coming off a big season and we thought he’d take the next step but we dropped the ball this summer in not getting one (if the striker market wasn’t great, which seems to be the case).
I think you can win the league without a killer striker but I think it gets harder if you dont have strength in the wide postions and a goalscorer in the midfield (e.g. like City had with Gundogan and even KDB who chipped in with his share).
I’d be interested to see if we really gave Nico Williams a decent crack at all. It doesn’t seem like we did tbh.
I thought Martinelli was shit for most of last season as well, no?
It was 22/23 where he turned up. Then like every Brazilian, gets an injury and comes back as a scrub.
Yeah he was. I was saying that perhaps the reason we didn’t sign a wide player after the 22/23 season was because we thought he’d make another jump or at least play to a similar level as he did in 22/23 (which obviously didn’t happen) and then in 23/24 we failed to upgrade the position when we should have.
You also have to acknowledge that it was perfectly possible for him to have another 22/23 season this year. He’s still a young player and inconsistency can happen.
The problem is we were banking on both him and Jesus doing it and neither have.
Well he has another 6 months to prove that, otherwise I want him to be a perpetual backup player till we find a better backup winger.
I completely agree, this is a second season now where he’s not shown signs of getting back there.
I think the club put faith in both him (young) and Jesus (injury disrupted season 23/24) which is so far not being repaid. Neither should be complaining about being relegated to backup status at best given their current form.
While the squad is as it is we have to rotate them in and demand more. As I said the other day I’d play both together, either we’re double shit or they get that chemistry back.
Title firmly in Liverpool’s pocket but if I am still holding the hope that we improve our form and if they slip, we are there to take it.
Our second half schedule should help us. Still 22 matches to go.
congrats to Liverpool I guess
can’t believe we’ve allowed them & Chelsea to run away with it.
We’re 4 points behind Chelsea and 6 behind Liverpool with 22 games to play. I wouldn’t call that running away with anything ?
Liverpool have a game in hand, whilst not a guarantee they’ll win that game… I think if we’re 9+ points behind we’re not catching them unless they capitulate somehow.
We’ve already had a chance to make up four points on them and we’ve made up zero. Which illustrates that while Liverpool can and very likely will drop the points, we’re not good enough to not drop points ourselves.
I’m 100% certain we won’t win the league now. The last two games have real killed us and right now we are really really struggling to create chances
While that would normally be a level headed way of thinking we’re in a situation where we can’t trust ourselves to even take advantage of slip ups from our rivals.
We’ve all seen this before with Arsenal where we just presume that we’ve already won because of the players we have and the form we’ve been in only to miss out by a small margin. My view is this mentality comes from the top.
If we don’t win something major (CL) then this will have been a disaster of a season. We have a bunch of players who are reaching their sell by date or are not offering anything substantial.
We’re going to go into a rebuild after this season and that will likely result in us finishing at or below where we already are this year.
