PL Title Race 23/24

The next step for this team to win the league is to start winning the big away games. City, United and Spurs to come.

Currently our best away win is West Ham in 7th followed by Bournemouth in 13th. We’ve dropped points against Liverpool Villa Newcastle Chelsea and in the CL not beaten Porto, Lens and PSV away with a real mixed bag of performances there.

City in 11/12

It’s funny that the bookies had us at 3/1 before the last lot of games and after thrashing Sheffield United we’ve gone to 7/2 with Man City still favourites and then Liverpool.

So it might be because we have more difficult fixtures and don’t have any recent title wins.

What’s your title race XI?

Mine would be:
Alisson
Saliba-Virgil-Gabriel
Trent-Rodri
Odegaard-Rice
Saka-Haaland-Foden

I think White, Mac Allister, Salah, Nunez(yeah) and Alvarez are worthy of a shout to be in too.

This season? Nah. Missed a large chunk of it. Hard to justify putting him in yet, could very well force his way into it by the end of the season though.

City’s first title, final game of the season.

Ederson
White - Saliba - Van dijk - Trent

Odegaard - Rodri - Silva

Saka - Salah - KDB

Robotcunt on the bench and KDB shoehorned in because he’s the best in the PL.

Ederson
Saliba - Stones - Gabriel
Rice - Rodri
Odegaard - Foden
Saka - Salah - Martinelli

I think I blanked a lot of that football out because we were so shit.

----------- Ederson
Saliba - Stones - Gabriel
--------- Rice - Rodri
Saka - KDB - Odegaard - Foden
------------ Haaland

If the three teams barely drop off and no one decisively comes out on top in the head to heads then by the time the last few games roll around it could make a huge difference. Not just on the final day but how the contenders approach the last few games. If we find ourselves 2 points ahead leading into the Old Trafford clash and we’re unreachable via GD then we could technically draw that game and remain top no matter what going into the final game. In a scenario like that we’d leave our fate in our own hands on the final day despite points dropped. The very unlikely golden scenario is being 3 ahead with a wide GD lead into the last day. That’s basically a planned parade.

It’s always the most unlikely but it happened in 2012. Liverpool’s cock up at Selhurst Park (where they tried to catch up their GD having gone 3-0 up in no time) prevented it happening again in 2014.

As for the goal difference angle generally, Liverpool have Sheff Utd at home soon and they’ll have an eye on trying to absolutely pelter them for 6/7 as well. Interestingly City couldn’t bag more than 2 goals in either of their games against them. I’m baffled as to how neither of those games resulted in a 5-0 blamming.

This is how you know the left back position is facing a bit of a lull in football at the moment. Robertson is a real contender despite clearly being at the tail end of his prime years.

Theo Hernandez is a lucky fucker to barely have any real competition for team of the year shouts.

Dare we start to dream, the way things are going as long as we don’t fold like last season surely we must be in with a chance, the next few games will tell. The City game will be a tester but I think we can beat them. :crossed_fingers:

We’re better equipped, with more experience than last season and Man City don’t look as convincing but Liverpool have gone up another level and seem to have the media on their side.
Also, because we were top for so long last season we had more pressure but being behind our rivals this season might work in our favour.

But when Klopp goes and FFP give Man City what they deserve, next season we should be favourites.

I just wish we could be certain of this :santi:

How they’ve managed this injured phase is class not gonna lie. Now they have Salah and Szoboszlai coming back ffs.

It’s all about how their squad players have stepped up you know.

It feels like their bench players have really dug deep and upped their levels for the duration needed.

Most of the media are focusing on the game between Man City and Chelsea as if it’s a title decider but if they draw and we beat Brentford we go top.

I still think Liverpool will win it because they’ve got the media, the pundits and most importantly the referees on their side but we’re far better equipped than last season and are hitting a bit of form.
So whatever happens, it will be very close and our recent goal haul could be the difference.

Klopps style lends its way to this more than Mikel/Pep imo.

There’s less technical skill required and more athleticism, drive and determination.

It’s why I do lean towards him being the best, yeah he’s spent a lot to compete with city, but of the 3 he’d be my pick to do well at a lesser club.
