Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

It’s probably around 300k a week, which is worth it.
We used to pay Walcott and Mkhitayran more than 300k between them and I know what I’d prefer.

Just saying, people used the exact same argument as you just did when we put ozil on 350k a week. Morale…assists…goals…

Not saying its easy but its certainly the easy way out
I never read anything about anyone trying to buy Auba so why did we have to offer so high? Noone wouldve given him them wages in a years time at 32 years old.

It also sets out what we are as a club, we are not trying to sell lacazette at the moment he only has less than 2 years left, hes going to be 30 at the end of the season, is a similar thing going to happen? Let him go for free or big wage for an old guy again? Eurgh I just worry about our future big time.

This is a great point and very valid.

Auba is literally Arsenal right now. Without him we have no hope of top 4.

Unlike Ozil, he is worth every penny. We can’t replace his goals at the moment so he is invaluable. He also seems like a great guy to have in the dressing room and leads by example on the pitch.

Best business we have done this summer no doubt.

He’s worth that much now. But when he’s 34? I seriously doubt he will be worth that much then.

I would argue that even with him we have no hope of top 4. Heck, we finished 8th last season, with him in the squad, uninjured.

Exactly, that kind of statement makes no sense considering we have finished outside the top 4 since we’ve had him haha

With 3 managers and a messed up squad.
Under Arteta we look far more stable. Last season was a write off. Could write a book on the amount of shit that went down last season within our club.

As with all our moves over the last 3 yesrs, it’s only justified with CL football

Why does it make no sense? We need him to have any hope of top 4. Would you not agree?

The statement does make sense. Losing Auba hugely decreases the chances of getting CL football.

Not if losing him means getting a 50-60m transfer fee, signing a younger replacement striker that produces 20% less G/A output, but on 100k a season, and reinvest the difference in the squad.

this^^ its all hypothetical, but a fully fit auba in a 200milliom quid front 3 has dropped us further and further down, because our midfield is dogshite.

I dont want to be seen as a Auba hater, im not btw, I feel he shouldve been given smaller wages or we shouldve taken a gamble.

I hope the reported wage amounts aren’t true, we won’t have enough wage space to build a midfield that gives us a shot at top 4.

For a start we definitely wouldn’t get 50m or more for him with a year left on his deal, especially in this climate, teams would just wait it out and sign him for free.

Added to that, there’s no way we get a young forward who scores 20% less for us than Auba, which is basically still like 24 goals in all competitions, on 100K.

Yes, but this is because we have had a lot of very shit players in the teams that Auba has played in here.

We weren’t getting 60m in this market for a 32yo

“if” being the key word there. If you have faith that we’d have been able to pull off the above then great, I certainly don’t.

It doesn’t matter if we haven’t qualified for the CL with Aubameyang at the club yet, it just isn’t nonsensical to say that losing one of the world’s best strikers would have been harmful to our chances of success.

My point, in this scenario we have kept the same shit players and not improved but instead spent the money and the potential investment ( sale ) on an aging striker.

I don’t disagree with that point.

Your previous post reads as though you are saying that because we have finished outside the Top 4 with Auba, it is not valid to suggest keeping him can help us get into the Top 4, that’s all.

I think this is how others have read it too.
