Its more our team is shit, and we haven’t finished in it with him, so when we have made no improvements why are we finishing in the top 4 all of a sudden. Its a non starter. I personally wouldve gambled and sold him to the highest bidder and starter again with how our midfield and attack work.
Well actually, I wouldve kept him but for much lower wages surely he hasn’t got that much bargaining, who is realistically going to offer over 200k for a 32 year old, i feel agents mug us off all the time in regards to contracts.
But if that couldn’t happen then yeah I would’ve gambled
Unless we sign good midfielders later on in the window then the majority of my whinging can be erased
He’ll be worth every penny. But I’m also sure that massive weekly salary isn’t all guaranteed money. I’d say there are quite a few clauses in there regarding add-ons. If he meets all of those, then so be it. He is our talisman. We won’t find anyone who could do the job he does right now for what we’d get for him. He is clearly enjoying his football here, giving it his all and returning.
I think 3 years is about right. Martinelli looks to be a very good prospect in the short stint of him playing when Auba was suspended. I can’t wait to see more of him, but he isn’t ready to be a full-time start and he’s injured. Hopefully we improve over the next 3 years and Martinelli will get more minutes, begin to reach his potential and sign a new longer contract as our Auba replacement.
You start putting wages up like this, you have too accept others will be negotiating for more from now on.
This doesnt change if we dont make top four. Set the precedent now.
We started with this with Ozil a few years ago tbh, too late to start worrying about it now imo. It’s either already a problem or it’s not gonna be one.
Agree but the club have to look at transfer fees in the same way. Cant be looking for projects all over the world and kids as solutions.
Justifying these wages needs backing on quality purchases. Otherwise we are just cheating ourselves.
No problems at all with the wage structure. The only mistake is Ozil. If the player is worth it, we’ll pay up. We aren’t gonna start giving the likes of Rob holding 200k a week ffs.
Of course he’d be getting that, those rumours of £250K a week were BS and I always thought so.
Auba is no doubt our most important player and his negotiating position was very strong. You talk about his age but what’s clear as day is that he’s similar to Lewandowski and Aguero in that he’s aging like fine wine, plus he rarely gets injured and arguably he’s getting better.
These guys put outliers and so all the age stuff is negligible.
@Stroller: for the best of the best sure, any Tom, Dick and Harry can’t command superstar wages here and will be told to jog on.
The problem, when Wenger was here, was that we paid average players almost as much as our top ones, which meant we had a situation where our best players were being tempted away to clubs that paid them what they were worth.
If we pay Aubameyang 250k a week and he is worth it because he is easily our best player and without him we would be in the bottom half of the PL.
Not concerned with giving Auba that money. He’s more than well deserved of it based upon his career and he’s almost single handedly kept us from being an absolute shit show, really has spared our blushes. The guy also doesn’t seem like his skills are going to diminish any time soon. As long as this isn’t used as an excuse later not to buy more players in needed positions, it’s a great move for me.
