Other Teams' Kits

So hard to work with a brief that requires a white shirt but wow is this boring. $160 for the authentic version of this fashion quaalude. It’s just so bad.

I swear that red AIA sponsor has to be one of the ugliest in the league :joy::rofl:

I know I go on about this but I really really hate sponsors on the shirt. Like ffs there is a whole stadiums worth of billboards. There’s no need for it to be on the jersey, really devalues it my opinion and makes it look cheap and tacky.

Yeah it’d be nice to have the option. Plenty would choose the advertising. Money off the sponsor I guess dictating here.

It was parley weekend for MLS. I cannot possibly understand why MLS’s corporate overlords think it’s a good idea to flatten the visual identity of the teams.

And it’s not just the parley thing. The league has shifted towards everyone having a black jersey and it sucks. But that’s single entity for you.

Wait sorry maybe I missed something - are all MLS clubs now going to be playing in the same home and away colours???

No, sorry. My post wasn’t clear.

This weekend everyone is playing in special jerseys adidas made from composted eggplants and old falafel wrappers. Adidas usually produces them every season but this year they did a light blue/white and dark blue. So for example, Atlanta (red and black stripes) is wearing the “home” light blue white for their match against Nashville (yellow) wearing the dark blue. It makes absolutely no sense. You turn on any MLS match this weekend and you’d have zero idea which team is playing.

My bigger (broader) gripe was how adidas (and really MLS leadership) is pushing the league into fashion blah territory. Atlanta had this great red/gold/black stripe motif going on and now their jersey is basically black. DC United? Black jersey. LA? Black jersey with gold accents? Columbus which had such a strong tradition of banana yellow jersey? Black jersey with yellow trim. Austin? Black jersey with green trim.

MLS is constantly chasing this idea of “authenticity” which is why teams are rebranding to add FC or SC as if that’s going to convince any more European inclined soccer fan living in the States to watch a game. But while they’re doing that, they also seem to be killing any sort of actual authenticity in terms of the cities’ personalities. Why doesn’t DC have a cherry blossom kit? Why are there any template kits in the league at all? Why not have local designers help develop a second or third jersey. Look at Philly’s alternate shirt this year! It’s amazing and iirc the fans helped design it!

Basically Don Garber is a corporate stooge, MLS is a ponzi scheme that relies on expansion fees to keep the league going and their design sense sucks.

Regularly though, Orlando City SC have the best home shirt, right? Can’t beat purple. Though I am a traitor. I abandoned them when Nashville entered the MLS.

The company should have done the decent thing and renames themselves Ziggy for this one season.

Celtic are selling their new away top without a sponsor for adults

Looks smart as fuck without it. Wonder if other clubs will start to do this?

It never even crossed my mind that they would be allowed to but I guess why not. Is it because it’s a betting company?

It seems kind of pointless to me though. I always thought the point of the replica shirt was to have the replica shirt of that season. The big O2 on some of my old shirts is as big a part of the shirt for me. Is there not already lots of decent clothing from clubs without a sponsor on?

Surprised there aren’t legal repercussions for that. Take us for example, if Arsenal did that, Emirates would be annoyed that they’re spending all that money on sponsorship only for their sponsor to not be included.

It does look nice though.

I wish all the fan jerseys came like that as default or at least gave you the option to get it that way.

It probably costs about my annual salary to be a shirt sponsor in that dead league, I doubt they even give shit ultimately.
