The German game is fetishized to an extent for its ownership model but Dortmund, Bayer, Gladbach, everyone is just getting eaten by Bayern. Nobody can stop it because of their ownership model.

You can compete though if you invest on a couple of players. If your making good money on transfers and not losing money its not beyond a proper title challenge every couple of seasons. There is an over acceptence of being an also ran.
It would not be that big a tweak too the club policy to find that challenge surely. Its moved too so much of Wenger top 4 and round of 16 CL policy now.

Dortmund tried that and it went extremely poorly. Hummels? Not a good deal. Can? Mixed bag. Witsel was a success and they ran Bayern real close before falling apart the season he signed.

Even Leipzig invests a lot of money and still can’t get over the hump because the minute their players reach a certain level Bayern cherrypicks them out of the squad. Shit, they even took the coach!

I don’t think there’s anything novel or revolutionary about what Dortmund did or are doing or what Arsenal are doing. Maybe it’s because it fits pretty neatly into a North American model of roster construction but it’s basically how most teams except for the Yankees or Lakers built out their teams.

Poor Erling, settling for ~350k pw at 21 years of age.

They’re probably paying him lower wages to keep the peace within the squad but quietly cutting him (and his father) a massive check for a signing on fee.

Too much smoke for there not to be a fire, regardless of what his agent says

Inter are broke apparently.

Tbf, Hakimi and Lukaku were pledging their loyalty to Inter last summer. Lukaku said he has no interest in leaving, and we heard afterwards that he was essentially forced to leave. Hakimi pointed at the badge and then gestured that he is staying when there were rumours of him leaving.

Knowing Inter, I wouldn’t be surprised if they sell Lautaro and get Dybala in on a free.

Can see Lautaro at Barca tbh.

Nobody would have left Inter last summer if Conte stayed and they weren’t broke. They’re still struggling financially and likely to finish runners up in the title race so I can see them selling Martinez especially as the attack has struggled this season

How would people feel about Martinez and Jesus lol

Technically much better than Jesus and Abraham.
Your midfield dynamic has too be improved goal and creative wise as neither is prolific but I’d imagine Arteta would factor that in and it could be very good.

I don’t think he’s technically better than Jesus tbh, I think Jesus shades it actually and perhaps has a better all round game

Probably isn’t that much better of a goal scorer either if both were given the same minutes through the middle

Man United have been linked heavily with Darwin Nunez. Reports saying they are in pole position. That baffles me completely.

Why is it baffling?

They do need a striker to carry them through the next rebuild, Ronaldo and Cavani may both be out the door in the summer.

Or perhaps you think he’s a mug to go there?

Obviously I don’t know, but I reckon it’s more this angle that Flexo was going for, them being in pole position despite not being in the CL etc

Not that baffling when you consider they’re probably the only mad ones willing to give into Benfica’s crazy demands.
For me it’s a suspect move at the rumoured price. Can see him totally flop under the pressure that comes with that fee, PL and Man Utd.

Yeah this is fair and why the onus really is on the midfield and full back situation.
People seeing them as out and out strikers will be disappointed if the other areas are not altered.
A Partey and Xhaka midfield hold will not be productive enough for them.

The era of fiscal responsibility at Barcelona was pretty short.
