as much as I rate Watkins I would rather go for Duran
There is still a chance. Emery is a fan of Felix. They could sell Watkins and fund a deal for Felix as a replacement. Also, we could outbid Saudi and Villa decide to keep Duran and sell us Watkins.
Would the fans accept losing Duran and Watkins? How would it not get toxic? Just seems too crazy to sell both.

I’m not sure that the fans have a say. Also possible that Duran decides to stay to be No.1 at Villa.
The only reason I say that is I am pretty sure Villa under Emery was linked to Felix, possibly before he went back to Chelsea, but couldn’t fund a deal.
There’s literally zero chance they sell both of their strikers. You’re on dreamland if you think there is

What worries me about this deal and it’s timing is that we failed all our other targets and now we’re too late to get someone like Watkins. Who was probably way down on the list of targets anyway.

If I was villa and could get 130m for the pair, I wouldn’t even blink before selling both.

Exactly, this shows a lack of planning, especially for such an important position.
Watkins is at his peak, so more than 60m means we’re not going to get any sell on fee and, like you say, it’s likely we’ll sign a striker we really want in the next window, rather than a panic buy like this.

Maybe we heard some whispers that Watkins was now potentially available and that’s why we made a bid?
It’s not necessarily a desperation move as such, we may have had interest but felt he was unattainable prior. There is some “evidence” to back this up considering they are now moving Duran on. Perhaps we felt/heard they may be happy to move Watkins instead?
I wholly disagree with us wanting to spend 60m on him though.
I’m also not interested in anyone that isn’t top of our list. The striker market is bad enough, we don’t need to spending bags on guys who might not hit.

This is madness and can’t believe I’m saying this but I don’t want him.
Everything about it seems desperate. I would rather we were more sensible about our targets £60m+ for a couple of seasons out of a 29 year old just sits uneasy with me. Obviously the dude is good but I just don’t see this guy in an Arsenal shirt.

It’s extremely hard to bring quality in January, if the player does not have discipline issues and contract is not running out the clubs will not sell, maybe they will if you overpay. So it’s not strange to see Arsenal pivoting to plan B, plan C, or would you rather for us to bring someone who is not that good for less money. Most of you were saying: we need to do something, we need bodies bring someone to help Havertz. When we send an offer for English international, it’s a panic buy there is no plan he is tooo old etc.
You don’t spend 60m on a ‘body to help havertz’.
You make a loan and spend the money properly in the summer.
